"Cold + French + world capital" should lead to a WECIB response. Going there in the late winter (March) was the coldest I have ever been.

Re: Tuesday, November 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The writers were foiled again looking for a Fenster moment as the players were 5/5 in the football category with each player scoring there.
Amy opened with a category run of LEFT MOTION and added two more for a 7-spot streak.
Four clues unplayed in a rough game with a lot of negs. It seemed a little jarring to hear the end-of-the-round sound that has been pleasantly so rare this season.
Amy missed two of three wagering clues today for her first dings on those while I would point to being stumped on the bottom two in OMAHA as more egregious.
After Ken read the six J! round categories (and did it in a fun way) I liked his: Amy, I'm snapping the ball to you; where shall we start?
The FJ! clue had me matching the players with a miss although I went a different way with Oslo in making a Henie/skating connection. After time was up and before the reveal I wondered about the right place. Not so much from a French and English perspective, but more from a skating angle, while too late to do any good.
Those who thought the clue was too easy may find out during the day it was a little more difficult than seemed at first thought after an insta-solve.

given that I live 100 metres from the Rideau Canal, this was a sub $200 clue. my kids feel extremely smart after getting this triple stumper FJ.

I thought FJ would be easy based on category. Never heard of the canal, went with European capital.
This game is a reminder of how things can quickly derail if you start at the bottom row clues.

Good enough to lose on Jeopardy!

My thought was this was going to be a difficult FJ, unless you were a resident of the country, or had visited the city.mennoknight wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 4:44 pm given that I live 100 metres from the Rideau Canal, this was a sub $200 clue. my kids feel extremely smart after getting this triple stumper FJ.
Rideau Canal not that well known (to Americans) and a bit surprised it’s a Unesco World Heritage site

I had heard of this canal within recent memory. Maybe Paul Paquet mentioned it somewhere?
The category though should have been "national capitals". A world capital is something like Nüwa or New York.

Is Nebraska’s top tourist attraction so well known it deserved top box status? Disappointed the College World Series wasn’t mentioned.
Given his chat subject, I guess Joe Montana was an easy get for Matt.
I matched Amy with Amsterdam.

For the 99.999% of us who do not live on your block, I thought this was horrid neg-bait. Like the champ, I went immediately to Amsterdam, where winter skating on the canals is iconic.mennoknight wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 4:44 pm given that I live 100 metres from the Rideau Canal, this was a sub $200 clue. my kids feel extremely smart after getting this triple stumper FJ.

The champ is having a really nice run, but I have to say I was horribly disappointed that she missed the golden opportunity to give us a nasal rendering of "What is Al-buh-koy-kee?"

Has a five-time champion ever played three games as two-player Finals?

Ottawa was one of the cities that came to mind after the category reveal. Canada came immediately to mind after we saw the clue. I quickly rejected it... ...I don't associate Ottawa with French, perhaps wrongly....I thought Winterlude might suggest German alongside French, and I ended up at Bern...

At least you did not figure out Canada and then make Toronto or Montreal the capital. Liederkranz? Many had never heard of the cheese. Everyone here at the minimum has heard of Ottawa.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 8:32 pm Yeah, do you really expect me to get this one? Piss off with these goddamn Liederkranzes already.
