Have not read Watership Down, but I know French for rabbit is lapin.

Tue - Amsterdam
Wed -
Fri - (figured rabbits, but Velveteen and Peter were too early, Goodnight Moon?... and then I ran out of time)

Seen the original animated nightmare fuel Watership Down and the Netflix version. Apparently there is also a 3 season, 39 episode version made at the turn of the century. I have not seen that one. Have not read the book either, which might have helped the most...

Have visited Ottawa once, for a day. Also lived in Montreal for a couple of years, which helped on this.
Read Watership Down a long time ago. Have not seen any video versions

Friday broadcast started in the middle of DJ on my local station

Dismissed Canada because of the French name, forgot the clue was looking for ice skating and ended up in the tropics with Port-au-Prince.
No guess Wednesday.
Desperation guess of Where the Wild Things Are.

Never been to Canada.
Never read Watership Down nor seen any adaptations; the bit about children neither helped nor hurt, really.
My DVR got neither episode, so I assume I was preempted both days. I wasn't expecting to get Thursday because the Cowboys were on CBS during my normal time, but I don't know what happened Friday.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Thought Reagan and McDonald's were from Indiana for some reason. Never heard of Winterlude. If you enjoy the horrors of Watership Down, be sure to check out Plague Dogs.

I got spoiled on Monday by someone specifying they missed Harding by guessing Taft, which made me feel strongly during the FJ that I would have guessed Taft too, but in retrospect I feel it would have been a 50/50 between the two, with Taft's career in law steering me away from him, so I'm counting it.

If I'd been spoiled on Tuesday I'd probably have given myself the benefit of the doubt as well due to having recently done genealogical research on people living near Ottawa, but I played it clean and fell on my face.

Nothing got preempted in L.A., but I had to timeshift every day after Monday.

Well, McDonald's is from San Bernardino. -Kroc-'s first franchise is in Illinois. (The Founder is a masterclass in capitalism...)

A male named Leslie is just weird enough to stick in my brain. Also knew that the first McD's franchise was in IL.

Should have gotten Watership Down but it just didn't click

McKinley on Monday, Amsterdam on Tuesday (couldn’t get the notion of Hans Brinker out of my head).
Yeah my Presidential trivia needs work.
Have never read Watership Down, nor seen the movies, but knew lapine was rabbit-related an it was an easy step from there to the correct response.

I read and loved Watership Down as a kid, but I don't remember anything about Lapine, so it was the word and the date that allowed me to get it...The 70s animated film was on TCM last week. I thought about watching it but chose not to. I'm not a kid anymore... (Didn't stop me from watching From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, tho. But that has Ingrid Bergman! Surprisingly good movie, btw...)

I’ll give myself partial credit for Royal Society even though it took me so long I might not have gotten it all written out in time.

I have maybe heard the “Don’t Trust” phrase before, but it was as good as foreign to me for the purposes of solving Thursday’s clue.

For some reason, I didn't make the connection between Hoover the engineer and translating a book on mining until too late. Can't count it because my realization came just about simultaneously with Dan's answer.

Went no-for-fourteen on the extra questions.

Wow. I don't feel so bad about my 4/5 week, especially since that fifth one was basically just a matter of chance that I didn't think of the right thing (the "over 30" quote).

I wonder if it was because of the holiday week, somehow, that the numbers are low?

BTW, the high poller is now down to 55%.
