Amy lost 4000 on DD3 to drop to 15200 and still had 30000 for the FJ! round. Quite impressive.

If I can get 28/30 in the J! round then that means there will be a bunch of perfectos today for the first 30 clues.

Credit to Nishanth for being in the red and managing to get 2nd place money by the end.

The FJ! had my precalls off with Austen, Bronte, Dickens, Twain, Hardy and Frank/Drac. I thought I was done during the break until I added one more with Moby-Dick.

The FJ! clue took longer to write than to process. If Hammer can't get this one then there is really is no hope for him on the game-ending clues.

Amy made her solve pay off big time.

Boardie MasterCone is on tomorrow.

This was a hell of a game to watch first thing in the morning while awaiting my name being called (after already being told in morning briefing that she was an 8 game winner with 300k and all of the games but one were a runaway). I did not exactly remember or register the exact amount she won because I was trying to strategize how to play against her, but yeah... this was simply a brilliant display.

Question: Would just "Hunchback of Notre Dame" be okay, without "the"?

Yes, without doubt.

The game is in: https://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=7202

My apologies for the delay in archiving it as there were some behind the scenes archive things going on.

Paris+bells made it a quick solve. Remember, you don’t have to actually read the book, just know what it is about.

If she graduated high school in 1993, she was possibly born in 1975, the band that cost her $16,000. (Would have had $8,000 more going into FJ).

I didn’t know Ken grew up in Korea. Interesting. Wonder if his parents were LDS missionaries.

Yes. His father posted some on the old board during Ken's original run. He cited Ken's having grown up abroad as a reason his losing FJ was not so obvious to him as it seemed to have been to untold millions of others.
I'm smart and I want respect.

She was talking about her eighth-grade class, though; I assume 1993 refers to that.

"Blah blah France blah blah 19th century" -> Les Misérables, right?

...Why should I even bother anymore?

I thought the bells being heard in 3 districts might imply 3 churches so I ruminated on "tale of Two Cities" besides the obvious answer. Then I remembered I actually know the first line of TOTC (it's either "Call me Ismael", or the other one, lol...).

Congrats Mastercone and thanks for the heads up and comments about your experience. I'm glad you had a little time to process the situation. Best of retro luck :).

Also Notre-Dame de Paris, the original French title...Apparently, if you say Le Bossu de Notre Dame in France, you're referring to the Disney animated film...
