Re: Wednesday, December 1, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Ken announced the Professors Tournament starting on Monday.
Nice work by Amy and David on the hoops category to play it early and well.
Amy is a great player though she might want to immediately switch categories after finding DD2 in one instead of staying there.
Ken demonstrated more hosting skill today with voice changes, speed and ad libs. He gets the clues and how to present them and the chat segment demonstrates talent in conversing with people.
The FJ! category had me precall New Delhi and Brasilia immediately and later during the break I added Islamabad. There are a lot more I had no idea about here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_p ... l_capitals
The FJ! clue had eliminating my precalls for years and person named. Fortunately, the World Capitals FJ! clue from last Tuesday made sure I did not go way off track. I wrote the right place about halfway through the music as everything seemed to fit.
I spent the final 15 seconds still thinking as I had no idea if I was right or not. Another 2/3 by the players.
Amy keeps the streak alive of no one losing regular game #11.

Jaimie has AI+quiz background. She probably had big expectations. Her buzzing was a little distracting and FJ response was weird.
Good showing by David.. Get those DDs.
Amy coasted as usual. Someone with aggressive DD hunting will beat her.
Since Ottawa was used last week, I chose the right response.

New Delhi here. Timing-wise, it's not far off. 1911 vs. the clue's 1913. For Mark to feel confident eliminating it, he must know something I don't!

David was a much better player than the runaway result shows
I also remember Jaimie being quite smooth in the rehearsal rounds. I think maybe nerves plus less than ideal buzzer ergonomics got the best of her.
Insert me grumbling from the audience about knowing all the DD’s and instaget final in this game.
One weird thing happened in this game so it was interesting to see it edited today - on the European History $800 question (where the Schengen Agreement was signed), Ken inexplicably ruled Amy’s answer of Netherlands correct. Recording was halted, Ken was refilmed saying no, and David & Jaimie were required to stand & stare.

Don't always count on me knowing something you don't, RKS, as it can be the other way like doihavettoreally posted and I thought 1913 was way too early.doihavetoreally wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 3:03 pmIndia didn't get independence until 1947.Robert K S wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 2:57 pm New Delhi here. First thought was Ottawa, but was pretty sure it wasn’t planned that recently. So I went South and started the month on a winning note.
Amy keeps rolling along. Ho hum.

FJ was an insta-"guess" for me, after seeing the term "governor-general". I saw that term used as a clue in the Australian version of Jeopardy. I wonder if any other countries have governor-generals, and I was just lucky?

Canada does and I assume all other countries that have Elizabeth as their queen do as well.SweepingDeveloper wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 6:04 pm FJ was an insta-"guess" for me, after seeing the term "governor-general". Pretty much all former British colonies that still recognize the Crown (not sure of all the specifics). For example Canada has a governor-general.SweepingDeveloper wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 6:04 pm FJ was an insta-"guess" for me, after seeing the term "governor-general". I considered New Delhi, as a city that could be a capital of the British government in India prior to independence, but remembered some scenes of Canberra in a Netflix series that made it look more “planned” and went with it.

I divided one-eighth teaspoon in half to get one-sixteenth teaspoon. Is that an incorrect response? Even though it essentially repeats back the clue, it's the correct definition of a pinch.

For once, an instaget.
For planned cities, I pretty much thought of Brasilia, Canberra, and -- because I lived 5 miles away -- Levittown, NY, even though the name gives it away that it isn't a city.

I said New Delhi because I was convinced that Canberra was later as in the 1960s. Turns out I was thinking of Brasilia.

(Baltimore) on big clues.
Precalls were Brasilia, Abuja, & Canberra
Never heard of stonk being used to refer to a single stock share.
[add] Please don't ever have "Pronounce It the Way We Want" as a category again. [/add]

Maybe I was too liberal with my interpretation of "national" and "immigrant", but I didn't see those terms as foreclosing the possibility of a subjugated dominion.doihavetoreally wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 3:03 pmIndia didn't get independence until 1947.Robert K S wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 2:57 pm New Delhi here.
