kingskip: I got a tip on FB yesterday morning about the Bruce game and saved myself a copy of it right away before even working on that last college game.

I have the upcoming 9 regular play games saved as well although their online position is not as precarious as a fresh YouTube upload can be.

I would capitalize Widow Clicquot. I'd never heard of her before. Sounds fascinating. (And we welcome her to the archive as a name in a clue.)

Have you heard of Veuve Clicquot? (I have.) "Veuve" means "widow." (I didn't know till now that it was a specific person, though.)

Just noticed Season 9 now has over 100 games archived. I imagine S8 will cross that threshold once Mark gets back to tournament games.

I wonder how hard it would be to get 7, 10, and 11 there.

It would depend on how many unarchived games exist out there in the general population.

Yes, I have 5/4/92 and when I checked the tape to make sure I found a bonus of 5/25/92 the game after Jerome Vered was retired. I don't have all the tourney & special games J! has aired, but I do have a high percentage.
Curious to know - do you still have this 5/25/92 episode (it's still not in the archive as of this post)?

If I had it in 2016 then there is no reason for it not to still be there. Thanks for the reminder as I do not always recall such board comments months and years later.

I wonder if Michael is over his loss yet? That's a haunter. In his shoes I would be forever cussing Lewis and/or Lancaster each time I came across them.

If there is a hall of fame for J! contestant voices then Marilyn is in there: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MsWM9W ... sp=sharing

Marilyn’s last name intrigued me so I googled her to see if there was a connection to Barry. I didn’t find one but I did see an obituary for her from last month.

Joe gets the honest dumbass award. At least it made no difference for anything. The clue stumped me and I could only guess a baseball player I knew died that year in hoping he got appointed to something of note.

A guy with a last name starting with "Holz" wins. What else is new?

This is the game! I've mentioned it on this board a couple of times, but I always thought the FJ was Gerald/Henry Ford and Michigan.

That's one I can check off the list of games I'd like to see again. Funny how old memories conflate.

I think I recall Bamaman posting about the Hoover occurrence. I definitely remember reading a description of it that said Hoover and not Ford.

Wild. I assume that wouldn't happen today.
Spoiler
But which way would it go? Would they give the contestants an instruction that a first name was required? That could make a huge difference in the get rate. Or would they accept Hoover and just not ask? For that matter, what was the intent in 1991? Were they prepared to accept Joe's response if he'd said, "Yes"? How about if he'd said, "Whatever gets me the points, Alex!"?

I floundered on this FJ and couldn't even come up with a response. If I'd thought of J. Edgar, I might have gone with that. I knew Herbert Hoover died in 1964 because he's the furthest-back president still alive when Mrs Penguin was born, whereas for me it's Harry Truman. This makes her seem much older. Also, she's a Boomer but I'm Gen X.

According to the search feature, none of the times I have typed out “Hoover”, none of them reference this game. (Until now, of course). This is the first I recall hearing of this incident. It is rather amusing.

I couldn’t figure out exactly what civil servant meant and put Truman.

One of my friends told me years ago on the episode after this one, Johnny coughed as he introduced Bill. :D

Truman died in '72, so that works.
Spoiler
But I assumed previous presidents had lain in state (in the Capitol rotunda though?) and the term was meant to exclude elected officials.

On a separate note, I just realized that I didn't know J. Edgar's first name. So if the contestants HAD been instructed to provide first names, I'd have been hosed. I suppose the instruction could say "last name isn't enough" or something like that.
