I got to the FJ answer surprisingly quickly. But yeah, those wagers. Oy.

Plus there was a DD along the lines of one of last week's FJs.
I remember this game. At the time, Stephanie had a humor column that ran in my local paper. She mentioned her game in it and implied she wasn’t a big fan of the clue. She didn’t comment on her wagering error.

The partial game has been sitting there less than 24 hours. Don't do this.

What episodes do you have on the tape? Does it include the September 19th episode where the champion gets defeated by Kerrie McCaw?

Among games whose wagering suggestions have been indexed by Google, there are two other occurrences of that set.

DD1 was brutal. I'm pretty good in the category, and I made the same (slight) error that the contestant did.

I hadn't realized that Alex had been saying for 30 years that "3-LETTER WORDS" sounds easy.

If the response to DJ! clue 13 looks odd to you, see Alex's comment 3 clues later before sending a correction suggestion.

Interesting advice from the wagering calculator. I'm not sure that I buy the idea that 3rd place is at all likely to make the exact wager that it tells 1st and 2nd to defend against.

Did they not tell the contestants to look at the camera and smile during their intros? Here are the best captures I could get:

I think "lame" is he word you're looking for. As best I can estimate it in Google Maps, the northernmost point in Venezuela is 12.196844 N and for Colombia, it's 12.458462 N. That puts the difference at roughly 18 miles.

I would have guessed Colombia, but Steve's remarks had me thinking that was wrong.

I guessed with Steve, but the difference is basically that there is a piece of land that sticks out and it's owned by both countries, but Venezuela owns the bottom 1/8 of it and Colombia owns the upper 7/8. Venezuela has its own jut-out, but it doesn't go quite as far out as Colombia (obviously).

Any info on the 5/13/88 Senior Tournament game with Franceline Turner, D.J. Smith, and Joan Erickson? I know Smith was DQ'ed due to eligibility issues and that Franceline is believed to have won the QF match, but any idea on the final scores for the game?

I noticed the 1989 Senior Tournament and Teen Tournament are both incomplete as well, these seem to be the only three tournaments with missing data that I know of.

If that FJ clue appeared today, I imagine there would be Internet controversy if somebody answered

I'm never quite sure what to do when J! uses an em dash. Should I enter it that way, change it to a regular dash, use 2 dashes, etc.?

As an em dash fan, I would recommend using an em dash if it has one in the clue.

Though, I'm disappointed there's a space on either side of the dash on their clue Chyron.

I noticed the 1989 Senior Tournament and Teen Tournament are both incomplete as well, these seem to be the only three tournaments with missing data that I know of.
Here are the missing tournament games.

Seniors-5 with three other games partially done
Season 4
QF5, SF1 Missing first eight clues

Season 5
QF2, QF3-Missing intros and first segment, QF4, QF5, SF1

Season 8
SF1-missing first three clues

Teen-3 with one game partially done

Season 5
QF2, QF3

Season 7
QF1-Missing first 13 clues.

Season 10
QF1

So there are eight missing and three partials. All other tournaments are 100%, not counting any NJCC that may be under construction at this moment.

For the benefit of future correction suggesters: L-I-Z-apostrophe is correct.

And what I have of Kirk Ditzler Game 3 is done, vs. David Green and Mike something, November 27, 1991.

We welcome to the J-Canon in the category NURSERY RHYMES the poem "Queen Anne's Lace" by Mary Leslie Newton. It was a Daily Double with "lace" as a TOM, you had to name the queen. Very tricky.

Also new to the J-Canon, Jaclyn Smith's perfume "California", which looks to be discontinued, but throw it on a flashcard anyway, what the hell!

The Daily Double in Single Jeopardy was one of the clues in the first segment, which we don't have. I hate when that happens.

Clue of the game will be MAMMALS for $1000, a fact which last showed up in 2006. Due for a comeback, I'd say.
The smallest of these mammals is the Kitti's hog-nosed or bumblebee species
