Amy swept the DDs, so not much of a chance for the challengers in that scenario even though Donna did well in spots. Ashley had a slow start in not being heard from until later in the J! round though by the end did enough to earn the second place money.

Amy may have been watching J! for a long time and using the Archive to study, but she has yet to pick up one basic swimming pool Pavlov. MGK being a stumper is of course more forgiveable. Thank you TMZ for the LT as I would not have know him (picture or no picture) otherwise.

Sometimes in the FJ! round I fail to pay enough to a key word that would have helped me solve the clue. Today I keyed on the word "foggiest" and wrote, "Brig" before stopping in thinking that has to be English at first even if Scottish comes into play.

I had a detour to thinking perhaps Russian was the other language and got nowhere. French got me to write down the correct title with not a lot of time left. I made sure I had the necessary first "G" and then realized that 1955 fit very well. Just as the music was nearly finished I had a "wait a sec" moment as it hit me, "Hey, isn't the writer Irish?" With no time to think more my fate was locked.

Oh, okay, then, nice. Makes sense.

Amy continues the streak of no one ever losing regular play game 19. Two have been defeated going for 20, so we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Amy has regained her level of total mastery. I got the Hockney and Constable clues (and MGK), but I think this is her back at peak performance.

FJ: 1955 + difficult to understand play made me think of Waiting for Godot. I'm not sure if that play is actually difficult to understand as I've never seen it, but that's how I got there.

I stayed in Russia and came up with The Cherry Orchard.

I didn’t know Godot’s original language but I did know it is two guys having a long esoteric conversation so it was my only guess.

You could have spotted me "Waiting for Godo_" and I still would have missed this.

Why was Ken so quick to call time on Ashley when she hesitated for what seemed maybe a half second when she was unable, or perhaps not quite certain, to add Pizzaro to I Left My Heart in San Francisco? It didn't affect the outcome but if it had I think she would have had a legitimate beef.

The podium timing lights had fully counted down. Time was up and Ashley was not spitting it out. Ken did nothing wrong and any protest by Ashley would have gone nowhere fast. If it was a DD then Ashley could have been granted a little more time, perhaps. Ken may also have noticed Amy trying to ring in on the first try and was ready to go to a rebound opportunity.

Behind the scenes I'm sure Mayim and Ken have been receiving guidance about judging on the spot and being fair to all three players.

I believe there was an edit there cutting some time...
I might have got the MGK clue if it didn't sound more like NGK coming out of Ken...Or maybe not...
I'm not a fan of pre-calling, but 20th C. Theater immediately brings Waiting For Godot to mind as a Jeopardy! favorite...
The "some reason" Beckett wrote in French, Ken, is that he lived in France for decades as an exile from Ireland... :ugeek:
I'd love to see an FJ on Godot some day based on the advertising tagline used for its first American production..."The laugh riot of two continents!" Well, it starred Bert Lahr...!

I'm old enough to remember Red Skelton ending his show with "god bless".

I get that "tartar sauce" is inoffensive but what does it euphemize? Tartarus? Tarnation? Or something still more shocking?

Well, it's sea creatures using it as a swear, and as tartar sauce is a condiment used to flavor dishes made of dead sea creatures...
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
