2022 RIP thread
I thought I’d start this as a supplement to the regular 2022 thread to remember and discuss people of note that we lose this year. If a mod feels this is unnecessary, feel free to shut it down.
Dan Reeves has died at 77. Best known for his years with the Broncos, he was also a player and assistant with the Cowboys and coached the Giants and the Falcons. Appeared in a total of nine Super Bowls as a player and a coach.

Re: 2022 RIP thread
Personal opinion: I think the thread we do is fine with the separate discussion thread.
One for research, one for discussion. Why add a third thread when looking into the past.

Re: 2022 RIP thread
I think it's a good idea. When I contemplate Current Events, I don't think of who died, and I don't see much evidence the J! writers do either.
I remember 2 news stories from that thread that became FJs in the last year or so. Both were stories about new findings that added to the historical record, not items that would be in everybody's news feed...Did anyone need to come here to find out that Betty White had died?...

Re: 2022 RIP thread
They have had “They died this year” categories in late December before. But it is limited to five people and you probably know them without the thread and Dan Reeves probably wouldn’t make the cut.

Re: 2022 RIP thread
My thought would be to just rename this to the CE thread because I don't like clutter but it's already gone off the rails...
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Re: 2022 RIP thread
I’m willing to let this one die if you’d rather have the dead in your 2022 thread once you start it. This was just an idea and didn’t know how anyone else felt about it.

Re: 2022 RIP thread
I like the idea of this remaining a separate thread and I am reliably in the minority on these kinds of questions. So the will of the board is that this thread be folded into the current events one.

NPR — Writer, director, actor and film historian Peter Bogdanovich has died age 82.
Bogdanovich shot The Last Picture Show, based on Larry McMurtry's novel, in black and white. Roger Ebert wrote the film "felt new and old at the same time" and captured the "emptiness" of a Texas prairie town in 1951. The movie was nominated for several Academy Awards including for best picture, best director and best writing, screenplay based on material from another medium. Bogdanovich co-wrote the screenplay with McMurtry. During filming, Bogdanovich and actress Cybill Shepherd fell in love and eventually married. They divorced in 1978.

More recently, Bogdanovich was tasked by with completing, for Netflix, the "lost" Orson Welles picture The Other Side of the Wind, in which Bogdanovich had acted during the film's shooting between 1970 and 1976.
