While speaking to Congress in 1985, he explained that his 1973 hit, now a state song, wasn’t about drugs
You mean it's not about drugs?
No more proof needed that we seem to have a penchant for electing idiots. And many of those idiots are still in Congress today.

Then when he said John Denver was correct, I was racking my brains trying to figure out how "Take Me Home, Country Roads" could possibly have a drug reference.
I had the same reaction! And that song is one of West Virginia's four official state songs.
"Take Me Home, Country Roads" is about driving through the backwoods to the trailer where you make your meth. Obviously.

I got John Denver because I thought the song was Country Roads, Take Me Home. I read something recently about the song so it was pretty fresh in my mind. I'll take it.

For a bit of context: his 1985 testimony was about the proposal put forth by Tipper Gore and others to censor music to “eliminate offensive content.” It was no surprise when Frank Zappa so eloquently tore apart the logic of that proposal, but I am sure that many beside myself were surprised when milquetoast John Denver then testified in support of freedom of expression.

Music isn’t my strong suit (though this was better than 2010s singer-songwriters), I’m betting the buck in FJ. And I got it right.
Not me, I'm going for the tie. And I got it right as well.

Music of the '70's should be a strong-almost-wheelhouse category for me, but I've whiffed on the last three '70's music FJ!'s. I got stuck on James Taylor without any particular song in mind.
Is that what it was? Simply wasn't on the DVR. I assumed some local politician was bloviating somewhere. Golf? Might as well start pre-empting for Call me Kat reruns.

Locally, it Pre-empted both Wheel and J! But fortunately we get J! On a second station out of Indy that didn’t Pre-empt (not a CBS affiliate).
For what it’s worth, the Friday golf is a one off. The PGA Tour didn’t want to compete with the NFL Championship games on Sunday so the tournament started on Wednesday in order to finish on Saturday. So the 3rd round was shown on the appropriate affiliate as it normally would on Saturdays.
