Re: Wednesday, May 11, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Yeah this is just a very hard final. Clemenza only shows up twice previously in J-Archive, once in a top row clue asking for The Godfather (UTOC) and unrelated to the Godfather, a clue about the Mozart opera "Clemency of Titus". Having a FJ response that has never been asked for on the show before in any clue seems exceedingly rare. I can think of one other notable instance of this, an infamously difficult 2014 Newsmakers FJ with TWO names that have not appeared on the show before or since: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=4682

Congrats on Perfecto. That is impressive, especially in this particular game.

Micaela nearly cost herself a grand with that lousy wager, luckily Mallory followed suit.
Also this was a time when my lack of seeing any major mob related movies bit me you know where. My GF teases me about it because I have the same last name as, but as far as I know am not related to, a rather famous mob boss.

Still not sure how I got it when I have never seen it. I have seen YouTube videos of several scenes, including the one where he garrotes the guy in the car. That kind of thing sticks with you.

Mallory Kass: 6200-3500=2700
Micaela Tuttle: 9400-6000=3400
Daniel Nguyen: 13000-5801=7199 (New Champ)
Micaela definitely overshot by betting twice as much as necessary. A bet of $3,001 covers Mallory and stays ahead of her on a miss.
In Mallory’s spot I might have gone with $1,000. It tops Daniel’s MSBIW score by a dollar. The only fly in the ointment is counting on Micaela to bet to cover me so I can win on a solo get.

Exactly. Or $1001 just in case he only went to guarantee a tie.Bamaman wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 9:53 amMallory Kass: 6200-3500=2700

I've seen the movies, I was in the Godfather universe, but didn't know which movie (figured either I or II as we don't talk about III), and didn't know the answer. Having no language skills, was never getting this one.

I remembered Carlo was the brother-in-law, so running through Godfather characters took me to the right one. The movie is holiday viewing in this household. I like the scene where Clemenza shows Michael how to make spaghetti sauce.

Probably not, especially since it was a bottom row clue.BigDaddyMatty wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 1:40 am Did they really need to give "palindromic" on a bottom-row clue about a 404 error?

Misericordia. Same word in Latin, so I figured maybe Italian would follow suit. And indeed it does. That appears to be the standard Italian word for mercy. But there's no character named Misericordia, so it doesn't work. Sigh.twelvefootboy wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 12:17 am My Spanish vocabulary doesn't seem to include "mercy", so I had nothing to make a WAG with.

Re: Wednesday, May 11, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Why? To me that's like saying the circumference corresponds to pi AND to 2*pi. The one implies the other and there's no reason to state both. To me circumference was the obvious one to include, but I didn't know whether to use radius or diameter for the other.twelvefootboy wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 12:17 am I was expecting a reversal on the Mallory's answer of circumference and radius. I get that it's wrong if it's not what Euclid said, but why the hell would he say that? There's no chance it isn't "both diameter and radius".
