Re: Wednesday, May 25, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Another run for Ryan with MOVIE SUPERVILLAINS. If Ryan plays Jonathan in the ToC it will be fun to see them fight over the entertainment clues.
Mayim just had to give the full name for the detective agency.
Since I saw Superman II in theaters in both 1981 & 1982 it always jars me when I'm reminded it's a 1980 movie.
Laughing at the Spain guesses for clues in ROUGH NATIONAL ANTHEM LYRICS.
No luck for me precalling off the FJ! category with:
Checkers
Cross of Gold
Henry - Liberty or Death
Iron Curtain - which made me think of Iron Horse
Lou Gehrig
The FJ! clue had me match the gentlemen. No connection, but it amuses me that I'm correct on the M & W clues of this week.
That was a convenient end for the DJ! round with Ryan having the lock and the board not cleared. If Kris had a slightly better fate to avoid the lock then I wonder if his all-in plus solve could have caught Ryan in wagering strategy?

I always struggle with the usual TV fare, but that DJ round seemed impossible unless you actually watch the shows diligently.

$400 - seen every ep. and got it rightBrigadierSolo13 wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 3:12 pm I always struggle with the usual TV fare, but that DJ round seemed impossible unless you actually watch the shows diligently.
$800 - never seen an ep. and had no idea
$1200 - seen every ep. and still didn't know it
$1600 - seen season 1 only and got it right
$2000 - never missed an ep. and no way I would miss that one
LSV will definitely lose a perfecto here if it does not happen earlier between the Supervillains and Bond categories. Overall, no chance today is a 58R.

24/2, 19/3 Coulda been better if they skipped TV for Bronte.
trash: High Life, Gilda Radner, India, Key West. more trash: 8th ward, Mexico. 6000.
on betting clues. Sad that the Pearl Harbor speech wasn't a triget.

Haven’t seen a minute (let alone a full episode) of anything in TV Support, though I at least recognized all the titles and managed to get Mad Men.

Coryat: $37,400
45 R/1 W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: High Life, Gilda Radner, India, Key West, Henry VII (DD), 8th Ward, Mexico, Stephen Strasburg, Italy (DD)
Kris reminded me a lot of Ben Ingram, though he was unable to match Ben's performance. (In fairness, few have.) Given his apparent affinity for historical and cultural categories, I was surprised to see him fail to convert "English king in the late 1400's/early 1500's" + "only married once (in contrast with his successor)" = the guy before Henry VIII, as well as Scipio = Rome = Italy.
Mark me down as another who bageled the TV category. I was fairly certain on the $400 clue but clammed. No shot whatsoever on the others. I've seen a couple of clips from Mad Men and Veep, but that's it.

Re: Wednesday, May 25, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Got two out of three for DD category predictions, off by a row in one case and dead on in the other. DD1 was $800 LET'S GET HISTORICAL. Exactly as I predicted. DD2 was $1200 THE ONE BEFORE THE FAMOUS ONE. I had predicted the $1600 clue in that category. Then I whiffed. I'd predicted $1200 IT'S THE JURASSIC PERIOD and switched that to $1600 when DD2 showed up in the $1200 slot. Instead we got $1600 ROUGH NATIONAL ANTHEM LYRICS. Apropos yesterday's conversation, the DDs were in adjacent columns.
I think if I'd understood what the ROUGH NATIONAL ANTHEM LYRICS category was I would have given it more consideration as a DD possibility. I thought it was going to be one of those silly categories where they give us a rough paraphrase of a line and ask for the anthem or the hoity-toity language used in the actual line.
I got Mad Men in the TV category and nothing else. Would've also picked up Killing Eve on a DD since that was my guess.
Fanny Brice for a clue referencing a "funny lady" was an understandable miss on Ryan's part, though Brice died in 1951. Lucille Ball, on the other hand, died in 1989 just as the clue specified, so she was a great guess as well. That said, I'm depressed that Gilda Radner was a TS when they were spotted one of her trademark phrases.

Re: Wednesday, May 25, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
There seemed to be an edit there. I suspect Mayim needed a little ruling assistance when Ryan identified the agency as "the Pinkertons". So she's trying to bounce back from that and get a rhythm going again, plus she wants to clarify who "the Pinkertons" technically are.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 1:44 pm Mayim just had to give the full name for the detective agency.

Went 0/5 on TV, having watched zero episodes total of the shows.
A certain former board regular is weeping knowing that a game that included a category on flags, one on national anthems (with a DD) won’t be used if he gets the call.
