I guess British history is a weak subject for me. I thought they still have a monarchy. Who is the old woman that won't step down? Is she grandmothered in by the ruling?

I have to call hubris on the 8800 Daily Double. Not about the 2,000 daily double of desperation.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

It doesn't mean "savvy strategy that may well have been her best shot at winning the game". Otherwise, I'd be calling hubris too.

Started off strong playing at home; got every single answer including a couple of TSs leading up to the first break. Unfortunately I'm a little weak on recent TV series titles and I tanked on whatever they mashed up with "What We Do in the Shadows".

Ketty tried to ring in on 50 of the 57 clues. Wow.
I loved her DD strategy. It just didn’t work out. She had the potential to win with a very low score herself. Megan disregards third place with her wagering. Today, she just lucked into the fact that her wager designed to beat the leader if they both missed also was good enough to lock out Ketty. I wonder what Ketty wagers if she is sitting on $500 instead of $200.
Megan making the TOC is amazing. She is the Rich Strike of the field. We’ll see if she can sneak her way in to the SF at the very least. The fact that her 5-day total is lower than Jackie’s best game total is just part of the game. Jackie missing that FJ will forever haunt her if her journey truly is over.

I freely admit that, for the zodiac category, I was sure scorpions had more legs than crabs. If Ketty bet it all in FJ and got it right, she has $400 and loses by a dollar.yclept wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 3:23 am Ketty tried to ring in on 50 of the 57 clues. Wow.

Re: Monday, June 20, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Agreed.
The scenario today was A = B + C, which means that the leader, Tory, should have given some consideration to a wager-to-tie, i.e. 9800, rather than his MSB of 9801. Instead, Tory wagered 10000 which is not a good wager.
Megan's three wagers from when she is in second all satisfied this formula: W = |3B - 2A - 1|
If Tory could have observed from Megan's prior games that she never goes all in, then Tory could have safely wagered something less than 9800: for example, with a wager of 9400 Tory would beat Megan if they are either both right or both wrong.

Wow indeed, that might be a record in the box score era, is anyone tracking this? Quickly glancing at the Amy games that are the first box scores from January, she had a bunch of games in the 40s with the highest I see 48 buzzed on 1/24. Going to guess that’s the previous record unless someone can point to a higher number.

I am trying to look harder at words that might pin the answer. For this FJ, the whole phrase "From the Greek for alone" was enough. I didn't look hard enough at the date, but I guessed it was during Cromwell. The British missed their main chance there... But it wasn't just the monarchy, there was the aristocracy as well.
I like Megan, and the history of her near wins...close games are exciting!

Coryat: $39,800
51 R/3 W
DD: 1/3
FJ:
LT: Eustachian tube, Smithfield, electron microscope, Tracy Letts, melancholy, glum
I think Ketty made the right call putting the hammer down on DD2. Given a few extra seconds to think and a maximum of nine possible responses to choose from, it's a high-percentage play.
Like Ketty, I flamed out on DD2, DD3, and FJ!. On FJ!, I got stuck on "sol-" and never got any further.
A big difference between those performances and Ketty's is accuracy. In Amy's two games, she went 40 R/2 W and 36 R/2W, while Emma went 22 R/3 W. Ketty went 18 R/7 W. She would have done well to increase her confidence threshold for buzzing just a bit.

You're correct. Amy had 48 attempts on 1/18 and 1/24. Emma Saltzberg matched that on 2/3. The next-highest non-Amy mark is 45, shared by four contestants.jeff6286 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:58 amWow indeed, that might be a record in the box score era, is anyone tracking this? That's from solus, the Latin equivalent of monos unfortunately. It's tough to recover in time from going down the wrong linguistic trouser leg.BigDaddyMatty wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:45 pm Like Ketty, I flamed out on DD2, DD3, and FJ!. On FJ!, I got stuck on "sol-" and never got any further.
