Lots of negs and Megan had enough of them to narrowly keep herself from the lead for the FJ! round. Second was the place to be on a triple miss FJ! clue.

My precalls were Harold/William Hastings & King John/Runnymede.

The FJ! clue is not the kind of thing I can solve and I matched Ketty with no response.

Ketty went big on the DDs and went home. If she solves DD2 then her lead could have been big enough to win unless she went hog wild on DD3 as well.

Megan's run has got her into the ToC and over 38 seasons such 5-game streaks have happened before with a champ managing to get it done with less than stellar numbers. Last Tuesday I never would have predicted I would end up needing to double label the game in archive.

Those first 5 words of FJ, though not entirely incorrect, served to confuse and let doubt creep in my mind.

Luckily I just stuck with my knowledge of mid 17th Century Britain and got the solve.

Judges: Would Megan's answer have been acceptable if the clue didn't have "from the Greek for alone"?

Does Megan hold the lowest 5-day total ever, adjusted to modern values? The only people I could find who won less were before the doubled values, and even then, the lowest I could find was $26,180, which doubles to $52,360.

Otherwise, props to Ketty going all or nothing on essentially a multiple choice question with nine possible answers. I would have done the same. Shame it didn't work out.

From the Andy's Thoughts section of The Jeopardy Fan:

Megan has broken a record, previously set by Donald Burgo in April 1986, for the lowest 5-day total in the history of the syndicated version of the show. (Burgo won $26,180 when the dollar values were half of what they are today; that translates to $52,360—$358 more than what Megan has won.)

I’d say no, since “crown” is too ambiguous, and could refer to the institution or the physical object.

I didn’t like the use of “nixed”, which I guess was used to make the clue more difficult.

Yeeeeeah. I was thinking something Parliament considered putting in to replace the monarchy but decided against.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Were this the ToC, it would have been "ixnayed".

ETA: I'd say "abolished" is the word they were most consciously avoiding.

that changes the question and words such as throne, king, and others would be correct.

Mark, you may want to note on Ketty's profile page that she appeared on The Chase with Daniel Donohue and me on 1/28/2021. (Unfortunately, Ketty was caught in her individual round by James Holzhauer, and did not get to participate in the Final Chase.)

Yes, I think the clue was intended in part as an exercise in etymology, so they wouldn't have phrased in a way that allowed those alternatives.

I do agree that "nixed" has a casual ring suggestive of something less weighty, so to avoid that and the possibly too-leading "abolished", I might have made the category "From the Greek", and asked 'From the Greek for "alone", it was, in 1649, declared by Parliament to be "unnecessary, burdensome & dangerous"'.
I'm smart and I want respect.
