"We don't allow faster-than-light neutrinos in here," said the bartender. A neutrino walks into a bar.

Looks like a nice, orderly evacuation, so good job by everyone there. Although, I would like to know who the guy was who ran back up to the top was.

You know, that 7 1/2 game collapse by my Mets in 2007 doesn't look so bad now.
How 'bout them Rays?
How 'bout them Rays?

Re: Reretaken Down
I watched parts of all 4 games tonight (Cards Braves Sox Rays) and I still can't believe it. Two simultaneous collapses unfolding with all the extra inning, walkoff drama a baseball fan could ask for. Braves and Sox each led their WC races by 9+ games, and won a combined total of 16 out of 54 games in September.econgator wrote:You know, that 7 1/2 game collapse by my Mets in 2007 doesn't look so bad now.

And this is why I don't gamble
As for the Mets, yep, 2011 replaces 2007 in the "worst collapses" conversation, especially since we had two teams choking. Plus, on the bright side, Reyes! Batting title! Nevermind the fact that he's as good as gone...

It's a good night not to be a Red Sox or Braves fan. Wacky wildcard Wednesday was unbelievable. 8-0 Cardinals? Where's their sense of drama?

He was wearing a National Park Service hat, so I presumed he was a ranger, checking to make sure everyone got out. Kudos to him.econgator wrote:alietr wrote:Security video from the top of the Washington Monument taken during the recent earthquake:

Seen on the campus of Georgetown University today, and posted without comment (although I will say I don't remember my college trivia contests being that much fun):

No, not *that* inhuman being threatening world domination...
In case we needed to be reminded just how parochial our shared obsession really is: CNN featured an entire article on why computer voices tend to be female -- in part because of the stereotype of the menacing "male" computer -- without once mentioning You-Know-Who:

Re: Reretaken Down
In archive gave #5468 and archive game #4106, there appears an "Around the Bible" category. Three of the five clues are identical. I know Jeopardy! has repeated clues in the past, but has that ever happened before, three identical clues?

Re: Reretaken Down
This particular instance is likely a byproduct of the writers' strike of '07-'08. Since there was no interruption of the airing schedule, to tape the shows they either had to film before the strike or re-use old material during the strike. In 2004, the first four weeks of Season 21 were taped before the hiatus, but the dispute was settled before there was any interruption in taping.
It would be interesting to see if there are any other instances of recycling that aren't strike-related.
