For amusement only. . . a CNN piece on this test popped up in my Google News feed yesterday.

Just encountered what may be my very favorite crossword clue of all time. I don't know when the original puzzle was published; it was written by Mark Feldman and edited by Will Shortz. I encountered it in the NY Times "Sunday Omnibus, Vol 10" collection.

Even after I solved all the intersecting words, I had to stare at it for a few seconds before it came clear.

136 across, four letters: "14 for Si or 102 for No: Abbr."
Spoiler
ATNO
Love, love, LOVE this clue.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

Today's Google Doodle is a fun little 8-bit game with an Olympics theme.

"I thought the Cubs might try to build around Báez, but they’ve decided to concentrate more on building their real estate empire, I guess.... Who needs a roster when you can sell merch?" -- baseball writer Craig Calcaterra (who has been beating the drum for a while about owners who seem to be more interested in using the mere presence of the baseball team to make money, versus doing their best to try to field a competitive team)

When I got the news, I texted a couple of Cub fan friends the question “when did winning stop being a priority for the Cubs?” Instant response: about 2016

There's no financial incentive to win. Pay your team $20 million, get $163 mil from TV rights, if you fall backasswards into a pennant like the Rays well that's all gravy but pay for a competitive roster and still lose? That cuts into your yacht payments...

That presupposes that people purchase sports franchises for financial gain, which I don’t think is supported by the data.

Impressive is right -- if not downright awesome. I figured someone invested in a $12K to $20K scratch build, but it turns out it's available in kit form for $3K, and that even includes the microturbine jets.

Want. Though I don't think the authorities would appreciate me flying it around inside the Beltway.

And for some odd reason doesn't label Mt. Rainier.
