But if it happened in 1681, it would have been English healthcare.MDaunt wrote:And if it had happened in 1681 he wouldn't have died of infection either. Rapid loss of blood and heavy metal poisoning, neither of them caused by the bullets.EugeneF wrote:So this is a re-re-reincarnation.

Then and Now
July 2, 1881: James Garfield’s Experience with American Healthcare
Shot twice by lunatic Charles Guiteau, President Garfield was rushed back to the White House and immediately attended by physicians. As night fell, the surgeons worked both by kerosene light and the glow of their cigars. The ashes falling into the president’s body were said to cauterize the wound. Given the long hours, dinner was provided to the medical staff. The scalpel served both the patient and the roast beef. Since the President was unconscious, it was not difficult to balance the food plates on him.
The President died of an inexplicable infection 90 days later.

I was thinking of Charles II http://www.aintnowaytogo.com/charlesII.htm. I don't think American healthcare was much worse. It was a time when you better off being uninsured.

Your RDA of Irony
The latest version of “The Three Musketeers”
http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1451924505/
To summarize this effort, Cardinal Richelieu has a German accent and is allied to the Dukc of Buckingham, who evidently has invented the dirigible two centuries sooner than history realized. And Lady DeWinter is a Ninja.
I am sure that Dumas would have thought of it, too–if he had to write a new version of the novel every ten years.

Whoever made that map did their research.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Speaking of which, we have to get Eugene here. (Heck, I wouldn't even mind having TRD here, but no one knows his true identity ... )
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Not so loud, please.
There's still a chance he may not find this board.
