Alex: Joe Indiviglia is from Southern California. And he and his friends are training now for something that I have never heard of. What is it?

Joe: It's called the Kanjam World Championship.

Alex: Right.

Joe: And this is a game you play. It's four people. You have a partner who stands about 50 feet away from you. You're throwing a Frisbee into an open can. It's got a slot in the front as well. If you get the Frisbee in, you win the game. Your friend can also help you hit it in.

Alex: Is there a prize associated with this?

Joe: Well, you're drinking beer during the game, though, so...

Alex: Oh, hello.

[Laughter]

Alex: Okay. Lot of people do this, huh?

Joe: Uh, a fair amount.

Alex: Okay.

Joe: Kanjam.

Alex: Right.




Alex: Ellen Plitt is an emergency room nurse from St. Louis, Missouri.

Ellen: Yes.

Alex: You and I have both traveled to the same place...

Ellen: Yes.

Alex: ...in the Pacific. The Galápagos.

Ellen: Yes.

Alex: What was your vacation like?

Ellen: Um, it was amazing. We, uh, I went on a trip after senior year of high school to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. Spent about 10 days there, 4 on the islands.

Alex: Wow.

Ellen: So we were able to, you know, see a couple of the different islands.

Alex: So one thing you heard quite often, I'm sure, is, "Be careful. Don't step there."

Ellen: Right. Right.

Alex: Right?

[Laughter]

Alex: You have to be careful where you walk.

Ellen: Oh, that's for sure.

Alex: Yeah. Protect the environment.




Alex: Buzzy Cohen is a music executive. He's from Los Angeles. He is our champion. I didn't know you also played piano at Carnegie Hall?

Buzzy: I did, yes. Um, my teacher, when I was growing up, had recitals there, so from about age 9 to 18, every year I would perform at Carnegie Hall.

Alex: Did you get a professional contract, uh, offer out of that?

Buzzy: I never did, and, um... thankful for that.

Alex: I guess you're not--you're not particularly good.

Buzzy: Good enough for Carnegie Hall.

After a lot of good games lately, this one just seemed flat to me. Joe had too many misses to have a chance to win on his sole get.

It put her $1 ahead of Buzzy's pre-FJ total. Which is great if he bets zero. Buzzy made the MSB, which left him with $8,399. She already had more than that and had third locked out, so she should have bet no more than $1,200.

Of course, that does leave her open to the possibility that Buzzy will make a small bet to counter that, but that is unlikely.

She only would have had a dollar more than him if he bet zero, which is very unlikely. Had she wagered less than 1200 she would have won 2 out of 4 times, only requiring Buzzy to get it wrong. But because she wagered more than that, she lowered her chances to 1 out 4, requiring Buzzy to get it wrong and her to get it right.
