Re: Monday, March 13, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
The players kept me from a potential 5/5 of shame as I had Bachelor, Rupaul, Shark Tank and Naked & Afraid in REALITY TELEVISION. At least I only watch one of those four shows that were played.
This was a TS clue:
#6462, aired 2012-10-23 WHO "R-U"? $2000: Abe Lincoln was fond of this New Salem girl who died in 1835, but a grand romance is not supported by historical evidence
Some things never change.
Well done by Jessica to run COUNTRIES' POLITICAL PARTIES. She got the sound of two hands clapping while no one got the one hand one.
No bueno for me on DD3 as I guessed honcho.
The FJ! category, clue and response will produce predictable comments. I'm on a 5 in a row streak, so no complaints by me.

My only worry on FJ was if it was really that simple or if I was missing something.

Re: Monday, March 13, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I don't know if it's just our local station, or if it happens elsewhere too, but you can generally predict the outcome based on whether a local gets any attention by the news before the show or not. If they say "be sure to watch this local contestant on Jeopardy! and see how they do," that's a good sign. When I had no idea there was going to be a New Orleans contestant until Johnny announced it at the top of the show, I correctly guessed this was the last we would see of him.
FJ!s like today are why there is no such thing as a too obvious answer. Worked for me tonight !

Wow. I'm surprised at how well I did tonight. I could have had me a Coryat of at least 21,000 had I not clammed on that Daily Double about Rutgers.
I had a lucky guess on the Daily Double on Antony and Cleopatra.
I nearly ran the LITERATURE ACROSS AMERICA category, even though literature is not one of my strongest categories.
Instaget Final.
Jessica could have bet $99 more in Final and she still would have won.

She got it right, so technically, she could have bet $18,500 more in FJ and still won.jeopfansincebirth wrote:Jessica could have bet $99 more in Final and she still would have won.

Was happy to see Bonnie wager $6k on the DD, of course she should have thrown in the other $200 as well. But then she made the mistake of taking a neg when barely avoiding the lockout which basically costs her double, then costing her triple when the leader got the rebound. (given a choice between the leader answering correctly vs. the trailer answering incorrectly with no rebound, the first option is less harmful)
And then in FJ she screwed the pooch on the math which could have cost her $1k.

Apparently this was a laughably easy FJ. If yall say so I guess. I threw a dart and said John the baptist.
Jessica kinda looks like Milla Jovovich.

Nice job by Jessica. She made it a runaway on the last clue. The middle challenger should have stayed clam instead of guessing autocorrect.
I also ran political parties but I qualify it because I accidentally blurted out Czechoslovakia and am not sure if I could have corrected myself before Alex said "No."
I hesitated on the five-letter Indian dish. I was going with curry until I got to the word dish. I think of curry as a seasoning and not a dish.

I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.
Re: Monday, March 13, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
For the love of crap, can we finish a goddamn board already? It feels like no matter how speedy the contestants are, we always leave at least five clues behind.
So at $200, I should be able to pick out Sudan from the 847 countries in Africa on a map?
Almost had a derp moment: "Oh, what Shakespeare play had Antony and Cleopatra in it?"
Ran the questions category, with Lach Trash on "what is the sound of one hand clapping".
Last Sunday, I realized how many Steve Miller Band songs I really know (at least three). This is because I was on a closing shift with a manager who allowed me to play Pandora on the bluetooth speaker provided I pick anything but country -- so classic rock it was.
WLT "1600" at $400?
Disappointed they didn't finish the podcasts, as I was hoping for a Welcome to Night Vale clue.
No idea where I got Ann Rutledge, but thanks for the Lach Trash.
Galatians and Corinthians = Paul = instaget for the Hammer.

Nice to see a shoutout to my Alma Mater tonight with Rutgers.
File "taikun" under "never in a million years"
TS: platitude (Fr. plat - flat), Alec Baldwin (really, people?), Naked and Afraid
Impressive work by Jessica, but why did she fade away in DJ?
Got FJ (Paul) but NHO WWJD.
Harriet Beecher Stowe for $1600? Come on.

You might recognize that word more easily if you spell it "tycoon".morbeedo wrote:File "taikun" under "never in a million years"

etymology: mid 19th century: from Japanese taikun ‘great lord.’
and yeah, you're supposed to look at the map of Africa and identify the country of Sudan

1600 Pennsylvania Ave, but I thought it was a weak clue. I guessed "2008", though I got the "keeping it a hundred" reference afterwards.TenPoundHammer wrote: WLT "1600" at $400?

Yeah, I got 3/4 of the numbers with 2016 (as in we want to keep things like they were in 2016).grindcore wrote:1600 Pennsylvania Ave, but I thought it was a weak clue. I guessed "2008", though I got the "keeping it a hundred" reference afterwards.TenPoundHammer wrote: WLT "1600" at $400?

Thee and me...FJ was rapidfire instaget for me to the point of my thinking "It can't be THAT easy, can it?". But it was indeed THAT easy.Bamaman wrote:My only worry on FJ was if it was really that simple or if I was missing something.
Ran Money Music and Questions and almost ran Reality TV (darn unfinished board...although, no and as for many others, it wouldn't have been my proudest 5/5) and Literature Across America (botched on Fitzgerald).
LT: Alec Baldwin and Naked And Afraid.
Edited to include one more almost ran because apparently my brain is suffering from secondhand 'reality' exposure.
