Got the final, although "elephant" first directed me to Eric Blair before I remembered the category.

Mark: may we get prizefight this weekend? (knowing I've just shot my 8/8 in the foot by asking...)
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

Request seen: I was in the clam working with "purse" club. Head slapper when prizefight was given.

I just caught up the week tonight.

Add one to the purse club, but I am always ambushed by my neglect of the categories and themes.

I don't know why I know ANYTHING about Kipling, but I deduced there must be a snake involved to have a Riki Tiki Tava Mongoose character. Which I only know from a song snippet somehow. This is some kind of osmosis knowledge I did not seek, but it worked out for this FJ.

I usually try to be attuned to the categories, but blurted "purse" this time.

I don't know why I know ANYTHING about Kipling.
Courtesy of my eighth-grade English teacher:

"Do you like Kipling?"

"I don't know. I don't think I've ever kippled."
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

The greeting card that made that famous used to be in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most sold--6 million copies, I think. It may still be in there.

My wife and I both pulled out the "I've never Kippled" line upon seeing this FJ.

Dang. If I'd known that umpty-ump years ago I could have one-upped a very smug teacher.

But this is one reason I love Jboard.

The best I could do for FJ was "Who was the author of The Jungle Book?" Which, of course, is the non-J! version of the clue. Very frustrating that I couldn't pull his name. I briefly flirted with Roald Dahl, then had to eliminate him since I was pretty sure he was firmly in the 20th century.

Why would grown men fight over a purse? Not because it's a nice Gucci purse, but for what's inside the purse. :P
