CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Libby Wood is a marketing writer from Washington, who I think has attended a rock and roll camp for ladies. Am I correct?
Libby: Yes, I have. It's this great camp that's--you show up Friday morning. You don't have to have any musical experience.
Alex: Oh.
Libby: They teach you how to play an instrument. You form a band. You write your own song, and you have a show at a rock club on Sunday evening.
Alex: How many bands have you been a member of?
Libby: I've been in six different ones.
Alex: Okay. A different instrument with each band?
Libby: I've played the bass, I've sang, and I've played the drums.
Alex: Okay. Good for you.
Alex: Jason Lai is from Duluth, Georgia. You are a risk consultant, and you're obviously a young man who enjoys taking risks.
Jason: Yes.
Alex: Because you've been bungee jumping, skydiving, and you also rode the fastest roller coaster in the country. Where is it? Is that the one in Ohio?
Jason: It's Kingda Ka in Jackson, New Jersey. I actually did it to pre-game for when I was going skydiving.
[Laughter]
Alex: Double-dipping, huh? Boy, you are a courageous young man. I don't know if I would do that.
Alex: James, let's talk about your daughter. I know she's precocious, but she has a story she likes to tell about you and a llama?
James: Oh, it's her favorite story ever. We were at a petting zoo in Ireland, and, you know, they gave us some animal feed to feed all the animals. They didn't tell us which ones liked the food and which ones don't, so I'm like, trying to force-feed this llama, and the llama had enough of it, and he spit in my face not once but twice. So she wants to tell the whole world, "Tell the story about llama spitting on Papa", you know.
Alex: I wanna meet that young lady.
James: Yeah.
TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
TASTE SENSATIONS $400: Big, full-bodied, jammy &, dare we say, unsubtle red wines are called these "bombs"
THAT'S A NOVEL PLACE $400: A rum drink, or a 1998 Elmore Leonard novel
(Jason: What is Yuma?)
SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
James: $12,600
Libby: $3,000
Jason: $1,200

Re: Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
James opened play finding DD1 and ran the $1000 clues to have $6000 after six clues.
James (doing most of the ringing in), Jason & Libby ran through the material so quickly there was time for a full credits run to end the show.
No chance for me on the FJ! clue. Drawing a mental map between two European cities? Useless. Former capitals? I have enough trouble with current capitals. Knowing which cities may or may not go back to the BCs? Yeah, right. To have something on paper I wrote Rotterdam.
When Alex said Jason was close I did not make the 4-letter connection and instead thought, "Zurich?" Geneva? I'll take under 50% on the weekly poll for this one, so perhaps one of James's best FJ! clues solve so far. That's lucky 13 in a row and James stands alone for that feat.

Fortunately I stuck on "former capital" after realizing I didn't really know what countries were between Germany and France. For a visually oriented guy, I don't know actual maps very well.

Was pretty easy if you consider that Berlin (current capital) was in East Germany and that the former West Germany/Bonn lay smack in the middle between East Germany and France.

I really struggled on these boards. Think I got maybe 9 or 10 right.
Didn't know the eyes had literal "blind spots".
It's clear that it's been too long since I last watched Steven Universe, as I didn't know "garnet".
I couldn't think of what a goddess would protect women from when placed under a bed. My best WAG was "sleep". What was the TOM for "childbirth" there?
Can't say I've heard of the correct response before.

This was another enjoyable board, though the "survival of the fittest" DD was a joke.
I could have told you that Bonn was Beethoven's birthplace and was the capital of West Germany, but I couldn't connect the dots on the clue. I honestly had no idea that it was that old a city.

Re: Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
James had an endearing moment today as he counted off the words in "survival of the fittest," arrived at a number he liked, and smiled.
I got a couple of lach trash off him this game: Cuba Libre and Bon Voyage. For the latter, I could also have sung the first few words of the song. Did not get the other lach trash which was fruit bombs.
Bonn was a possibility I considered but for reasons unknown even to myself, I rejected it in favor of Antwerp. Also in the running were Geneva, Lucerne, and Strassbourg but, for some reason, not Zurich.

I 've seen elsewhere where James was referred to as "The Joey Chestnut of Jeopardy", so I laughed out loud when Joey Chestnut came up in the Brooklyn category. (Chestnut wins the July 4 hot dog eating contest every year in Coney Island.)

Re: Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
So James ties David Madden's win total but James's winnings so far are nearly $1 million more than David's were. Unbelievable - as are James's new record of 13 consecutive FJ's correct, and his overall FJ solving rate of 18/19. While it's true that as a group those FJ's have leaned towards the easy side, they haven't all been gimmes. Today's certainly wasn't.
Regarding today's FJ: I think the date of the city's founding was a red herring that was in there to pin the clue but wasn't going to help anyone solve it. Once I realized that thinking of old cities was getting me nowhere, I figured it out with roughly the following thought process: "Germany is to the right of France on the map, Berlin was in East Germany - hence the Berlin Wall - so could it be Bonn, which was the capital of West Germany and therefore might be roughly halfway between Paris and Berlin?" I wasn't fully confident as I locked in Bonn, though. BTW, Bern wouldn't have been a bad guess if the clue hadn't specified that they were looking for a former capital.
Back to James: I get the feeling that yesterday was the big opportunity for someone to knock him off; but that since it didn't happen, it could be a long time before circumstances align again to expose him to the possibility of defeat.
Regarding today's FJ: I think the date of the city's founding was a red herring that was in there to pin the clue but wasn't going to help anyone solve it. Re: Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Tornado and severe weather pre-emption for most of the show here in the alley. The show cut back in with James at $45K and two shell shocked players beside him. We saw the category, but had to come back here for the clue because we weren't scared s**tless enough for the local affiliates.
I worked out that it would be the capital of West Germany, but I couldn't pull the city, and it is no head slap for me after the reveal. Munich was my WAG for the capital after ruling out Frankfort but thought both were too far south. Great clue, writers. This is crap we should know.
