Trivia Nationals

Post by Austin Powers »

If you had not heard about this, then I wanted to post this here to let you know about it:

http://trivianationals.org

It's not TCONA. It's not TCONA's successor. More just a very similar event run by enthusiastic trivia folk, that just so happens to be at the Tropicana in August.

It's set up to run differently, as a nonprofit, with anything made as "profit" going back to helpers and question writers.

I very much believe it's going to be a blast.

If you have questions, I might be able to answer them, or point you towards the person who can.

Thanks

I am curious to know the difference between this and the Trivia Championships Of North America. I have been debating on going there every year, but always had other plans or ran into financial problems or sometimes both.

Different people running it, but much of the content will be the same...and 5x5 is returning.
Total game show career losings = $171,522

And Learned League Live will be there, too.

Another planned difference is that they wanted to do tiered events. For example, they want to do two divisions for quiz bowl, to make it more enjoyable for some of the less uh aggressive teams.

I'm strongly weighing it. The prospect of a walk-on J! audition for those of us who haven't had a sniff in a decade is a major inducement.

I know of at least one other boardie who plans on being there and I have hopes that a couple other of my acquaintance may be able to show up.

The J! audition does make it tempting, as I have not had one since 2008. But as tempting as it is I think that I am going to holdout. I went in 2014 and 2015, but the second time really felt unnecessary (though I say this as a D rundler who will never win anything). I would like to go again in the future just so I can see everyone again, but with so many other places that I still want to visit I can't justify the cost and using vacation days from work on it.

But I encourage everyone to go at least once!

As of now, I am currently dealing with some problems at home, so it is still debatable for now.

I went to tcona in 2015, 2017, and 2018 but I’ve got a Caribbean cruise planned this year. I will miss it and I hope to go there next year. Vegas in August is tough but it’s worth the trip.

I'm a little shocked by the airfare for that weekend, but I expect the price will fluctuate over the next few weeks

Going solo right now, so let me know if anyone needs an extra body to round out your team.

Just booked our flights! Cyndi and I hope to see new, old and previously-online-only trivia friends!

Potentially looking for a strong teammate for quizbowl.
We came fourth last year - but I like to think of that as first among mortals. Send me a PM if you are interested.
