Got this final jeopardy, but probably would have gone with what James wrote if I had thought of it.

I had the same thought. If Hozhauer gave them a ratings boost, that means a lot of interested people didn't see the beginning of his run. If they're offered a chance to catch up during the summer, they might stay invested and keep watching when the new season starts. Unfortunately, James was in 33 games--three more than fit in a 6-week period. So they couldn't schedule his whole run. And if they did, would they perhaps lose viewers by the end of it? People say, "This is where I came in" and stop watching and don't start up again in September.

Since they aren't rerunning Holzhauer, I think they'd be smart to put ALL his games on the net. That would give people a chance to binge watch before Season 36 and maybe get invested.

0/5 in Ballpark. For most of them, I was able to at least pull the team name but not match it to a field.

Strangely, Slaughterhouse-Five was my only get in Audible Summer Reading. However, I ran Anagrammed Hobbies.

I recognized all five alliterative actors, but still went 0/5 in that category.

"Epigraph" was a NHOI in the top box for me.

No guess on FJ! Didn't see a single TOM anywhere in the clue. Especially with three different negs that were all on the right track, I'm gonna chalk this up as just a dud clue.

The TOM was that Livingstone is well-known for exploring the interior of Africa during the reign of Queen Victoria. So you should have been thinking of wondrous natural landmarks in the African interior.

I went with Victoria Falls as Livingstone traveled in south central Africa. Kilamanjaro is in eastern Africa.

I knew that, but the name was so utterly generic as not to register to me. Hawley-Smoot Rule in full force.

I don't know what you mean by "Bumf**k," but Timbuktu is 2,348 miles from Cairo as the crow flies.

3) I don't need $1000 that badly.

Except it wasn't really a geography question:
I love both of these observations and the breakdown you gave us. Even the dreaded Opera category often winds up being a tangential subject to another Pavlov.

Congrats on a life-changing experience. Now go get the next one!

This is, by the way, the first game that contestants could have seen James Holzhauer play beforehand. Started his run on 4/4, and this was taped on 4/6.

...and even then, they wouldn't have seen him break the game yet; he "only" won $43k and $38k his first two games. On 4/6, he was just an impressive 2-day champ (they might have heard about his run while they were taping, but they wouldn't have truly seen the nuts and bolts of what made it so incredible).

it is a phrase used when referring to something that is in the boonies, middle of nowhere, not close to anything

Not sure how or why one would use that word in the context of Egypt.

Speaking of the devil:

I was an alternate at the 1/30 taping and lost the draw to another local, Jeff Trojan. I asked Ryan if he could let me know the rebook date ASAP so I could juggle clients around. He told me 2/11, and then a few hours later corrected himself: "Upon further examination, we actually have ANOTHER James coming in on that day."

I was eventually rebooked for 3/5. Then the Thursday before, Maggie called me and asked me if I ever used a nickname. I said no; it's just about always been James. She told me the current champion was also a James, so I could either adopt a nickname, show up and stand by for him to lose, or wait indefinitely for another rebooking call.

This is when Frida Lyngstad and Phil Collins started singing in my head, and they got louder and louder until I got rebooked for 3/31 (postponed to 4/6 at my request.)

Thus to my family and friends, Holzhauer is known as "The Other James," while to the rest of the world, that descriptor would be much more apt for myself.
