Audition rules clarification

Post by Charis »

I have received conflicting information about audition rules and I thought someone here could guide me.

My 18-month clock runs out 3/27/20. The next online test is in January 2020, or so I've been told. Am I eligible to take the test or not?

Who told you that? The last online test was in April 2019. I doubt the next one has been scheduled yet.

The way I understand it, it's 18 months from the date of your last audition. Not 16 months, 17 months, or whatnot. So if there is one in January, you can't play. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

I always say if you're getting close to the end of your swim, then yes, take the test. You might not hear from TPTB for several months, if at all.

In OP's example, taking the online test in January would most likely not result in an audition before March

If I was in a couple of months, I would take the test anyway as the audition date would be outside the window of the 18 months.

Then when and if invited, I would alert them to the situation and ask if I am eligible for the audition. This way it does no harm to anyone eligible, while giving myself every possible opportunity.

Charis is correct.

I agree with this. At one springtime audition I attended, Maggie said (and I am paraphrasing) "We basically just want you to skip a year. If you have an in-person audition, don't take the next year's online test."

I don't know if the same advice holds for people who have in-person auditions in the autumn.
Teems with quiet fun.

Send a note to the contestant coordinator email address. Explain your situation and ask them if you should take the test.

That's what I did in 2018 when my 18 months ran out a week or two after the online test was scheduled. They told me to skip the online test. I did. They still did not call me to be on the show. So it goes. :D

Interestingly, others have been specifically told that they were fine as long as it was 18 months between auditions.

I had hoped that I was following the same path as Seaborgium who got the call 20 months (maybe longer) after his audition. But that was not the case. I took the test again earlier this year and had an audition last week to start a new 18 month clock.
