Re: Tuesday, October 29, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Steve's chat segment is top 25 all-time if not top 10.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1HP5hv ... aYG4HP84aJ
Too bad Kari could not name drop anyone/anything for all of her family members with game show appearances other than specifying she is the first on J!
It's nice when a video clue lasts long enough for me to scrub a blurt and switch gears to the right thing such as the big ship clue.
Anthony won the J! round and Steve won the DJ! round. Steve plays tomorrow.
The FJ! clue was a quick get though not as easy for those who have actually seen the film. I had to work a bit harder through the maze of "suspenseful" must mean a certain director and from there pick the right film. Knowing the difference between '40s, '50s & '60s made sure I knew which films to omit and which to consider. From there it was a heavily weighted coin with NxNW only 10% plausible in my mind.
And the brakes are on the carousel after a lot of spinning over the past week.
7 games in a row now with all clues played. Something has changed and for the better. We'll call it Daryn's Rule since he was the last champ to play in an unfinished board. I'll have to look at the end play of that game again to see if something happened for the powers to say, "Enough is enough! We need to complete the boards."
My kind of people on the show today starting the DJ! round with TV, making it the first five clues done and each player getting at least one right.

If you're going to set this as a row 5 clue, even in the Jeopardy! Round, leave off that parenthetical.A Temperance Brennan novel: "___ Bones" (referring to the number of bones in the body)

Congrats to Steve on his second win, and hopefully he'll win at least 5. After Jason lost, we haven't seen any 5-time champs; Kevin Boettcher won only 3, and I think that has been the most won by a Jeopardy! contestant since Jason's streak ended.

For some reason I keep saying 212. Not sure why I am mixing it up with the boiling point of water.MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 2:40 pmIf you're going to set this as a row 5 clue, even in the Jeopardy! That was awesome. Steve has a story to tell forever. Second half of J round was toast as I was still chuckling.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 11:03 am Steve's chat segment is top 25 all-time if not top 10.

If you break six bones skiing, you now have 212... and the boiling point of water is 206 due to the altitude.econgator wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 7:51 pmFor some reason I keep saying 212. A: This is the number of bones in the human body minus The number of seconds of Rear Window I have seen.
Q: What is 206?
Nada chance.

Started off with running Idioms Delight. Also got all but 100-Year-Old Man in Books.
Can't say "Eritrea" rings any bells.
Central American Countries always elude me when I need them. I can't find a way to make them stick.
NHO "Downspout". That seemed esoteric for $400. I WAGged "drain".
All but "tentmaker" in "Ten".
Grant was my only 0/5 today.
The sides of a barrel are NOT "slats"?!? That seemed massively negbaity, and even looking it up I don't see how "slat" is wrong.
Tried to dig deep for 1950s suspense/murder movies. "Rear Window" did flit through my mind, but I swatted it away as not quite jibing with "suspense" and left it blank.
Lach Trash: "Alien", QE2, Trent Reznor

Re: Tuesday, October 29, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I'm a TCM kind of guy - or have been - but I've had plenty of time to forget Rear Window since the last time I watched it, I guess, because the clue's details meant nothing to me. I don't remember the dog or the dancer. I suppose just "possible" murderer should have been enough...but I would have preferred wheelchair...courtyard...Raymond Burr would have been a lot more helpful... I prefer Vertigo anyway...
The movie's just ending on Starz Encore, with a mention of the dog and a glimpse of the dancer.... ...Alfred Hitchcock festival...Shadow of a Doubt is next!

You swatted away a Hitchcock movie as not quite jibing with "suspense"?TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 10:43 pm Tried to dig deep for 1950s suspense/murder movies. "Rear Window" did flit through my mind, but I swatted it away as not quite jibing with "suspense" and left it blank.

Hitchcock is filed in my brain under mystery and horror. SImilar to, but not quite 100% in line with, suspense. A movie can be suspenseful without being a mystery, or vice versa.hbomb1947 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 11:17 pmYou swatted away a Hitchcock movie as not quite jibing with "suspense"?TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 10:43 pm Tried to dig deep for 1950s suspense/murder movies. I have not seen Rear Window. I have, however, seen the Simpsons episode where Bart spies on Flanders through the window. Result:

I've seen Rear Window and still got FJ wrong. The only thing I could come up with was Touch of Evil.

Re: Tuesday, October 29, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Alex nailed this scene with perfect comic timing. His facial expression as he set it up and the little pause could have been him reflecting on whether he should pull the trigger on this one. This is about as blue as I can think of from him, and bookends the one last week (?) where he quipped about pulling the all-nighter.doihavetoreally wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 8:00 pmThat was awesome. No chance on FJ, I picked Maltese Falcon knowing it was a) probably 1940's (it's 1941), and b) I don't quite associate detective genre with suspense. I know enough about Psycho to know there's no prominent dog and it was closer to 1960's (1960). I don't know of any iconic digging dogs so this one required watching the movie.
Good players, Steve seems to have a bold gameplay style appropriate for his knowledge base. He also prospered from the wealth of movie/theater references.

Yeah, that one seemed kind of iffy to me and I wondered if they'd reverse. Stave is the precise term, and it's what I said, but slat didn't seem wrong exactly.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 10:43 pm The sides of a barrel are NOT "slats"?!?
