Re: Monday, November 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Opus is going to busy with his 4th podium poll.
Alex and the writers saw the "Genre" video and the nod to it was funny.
Kyle needed to know a Pavlov for how to connect "diamond-producing" to a U.S. state. Actual flag knowledge was not necessary.
Emma was easily the best on the buzzer once again and couple with solving the FJ! clue was all she needed. DDs would only be a bonus.
Nice work by Kyle to convert DD3 to the max to make the FJ! round matter. Solving the FJ! clue made Emma have to do the same to knock down the door to the finals.
No chance for me on the FJ! clue as I am not good on such things. My response was "Mighty Have Fallen" to have something. At the end of think time I thought of one more, "West Was Won." Yeah, chalk up a miss.
Dhruv's FJ! response made it difficult for Alex to speak as it was obvious the emotion was hitting him. There was also an audible "Aww" from the audience. Like the pro he is, Alex kept it together to conduct the rest of the round.

Re: Monday, November 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
For some chronological context, this was happening the day after Alex's public admission that his numbers had suddenly worsened and he'd be starting a second round of chemo. We were all thrilled (and misty) to see Dhruv's answer that day...MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 11:03 am Dhruv's FJ! response made it difficult for Alex to speak as it was obvious the emotion was hitting him. I'm surprised they spotted "How the" for the FJ.

It's a lot easier to write three words than five in 30 seconds.

This game is a draw for the Weak Form of Shore's Conjecture. The second-place player bet "small." --Bob

We're so close to that James-Emma rematch, baby! Gonna be must-watch TV for sure!
Also, nice to see Dhruv go out with a fantastic message towards Alex.

Me too. I agonized over it, and went the wrong way.

Way to go, Emma!
And, wow, Dhruv's FJ response had us in tears. What a moment.

French history, politics, sports, flags? Yeah, expect a low Coryat from me today.
However, I ran King James Bible.
Didn't recognize anything in Generic except "Final Fantasy".
How the... I have no freaking clue. Correct response is not in my database at all.
Lach Trash: ostentatious

I started with "mighty have fallen", but that didn't seem to jibe with the clue. Thankfully, the correct response came to me.

Re: Monday, November 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
They should have titled it FAMOUS PHRASES THAT END IN 'S'.
"Lives" renders the other half monolithic, while "live" allows for more individuality among them. But I guess that's not what Riis wanted to do.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Oof, tough game. My Coryat tells me I won't be doing great on the 4th podium poll.
Emma is fast and accurate - deadly. Kyle was great fun to watch. Poor Dhruv needed to keep clam, but needed to catch up and was in trouble from the start.

How about because, without being spotted the first two words, the get rate on this would plummet from respectable to catastrophic?OntarioQuizzer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 12:33 pmIt's a lot easier to write three words than five in 30 seconds.
I got it after some thought. Without the hint, I'm guessing no chance in the world.

Re: Monday, November 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Coryat: $24,200 (33 R, 3 W)
DD: 1/3
FJ:
LT: basketball, Nash (DD), Pascal, Caddyshack
Kyle’s reaction to the Caddyshack clue? Yeah, that was me all game, just could not get my brain into gear. Ran the Bible category but that was it. Actually finished in negative figures for the Marquis category.
I’ve only ever heard the phrase as “how the other half liveS”, so no agonizing for me there. Alex getting choked up over Dhruv’s answer was sweet.
Looking forward to the inevitable Emma/James rematch.

Re: Monday, November 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I second the motion re Emma and James. I picked her to win this game when I saw the matchup, and she didn't disappoint.
For me the highlights of the game: LT on writ of certiori, Blaise Pascal, and Bedrick Smetana, plus (not a TS but a tough one if I say so myself) knowing the full name of diabetes mellitus. Oh yeah...also Arkansas for producing diamonds and not-quite-instaget on FJ but a get nonetheless.
Congrats and thanks to all three. I second Dhruv's message, as I'm sure many here do.
PS I just realized that my beloved Cleveland Browns will be playing the Steelers on Thursday night, meaning likely a preemption, damn it all!
