Not polled: 4/10 for the ToCTouched by the reaction to Dhruv's FJ! round response though eyes dry

Bible/Rust, "guy who invented the barometer," Lamentations, Japan/Philipines (Russia was my first instinct, but it didn't feel right. Agh.)

Had not heard of Jeremiad before.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Goose egg.

Agatha Christie was too far back to pull in time. I know way too many female mystery authors.

Galileo for the barometer guy just to say something, although I subsequently learned that Torricelli was a student of Galileo. Korea for Russia.

Swimming pools are a Pavlov for Hockney.

I got all 10 TOC FJ so I'll say they were too easy for a TOC. Maybe someone has FJ conversion stats for the participating contestants in previous TOCs.

Rust belt/Bible belt for Tuesday.

Knew it was “Who invented the barometer?” on Wednesday but that was as far as I could get.

Heard of jeremiad but couldn’t pull it.

Thank you. So my intuition was correct. By this measure, FJs haven't been this easy in TOC in 20 years.
No. You aren't using statistics right! (you know, lies, damn lies, and statistics :)). By this measure, these are the smartest best players in 20 years. And if you got 6 of them then you are a smart duck :D .

My intuition is that these 15 players could crack 15-20 clues of (almost) any of the previous TOC's. We had two players who will chip in 7 or 8 (presuming they make finals), so the other 13 only need to pull 10 of 22 remaining.

Two elite players can blow up the curve with their 8 samples. The average of this data set is 48% right, which pro-rates to 14.5 / 30. The standard deviation is 11%, so about 1/6th of the data is expected to be above 59% (48+11). That's five games. Just like the dataset showss. Disclaimer - there are far better statisticians here than me, but the old normal distribution has been powerful for me, especially with a beautiful set with n=28.

Of course this board and Mark's weekly poll will speak to the relative difficulty of this set with it's 100 or so sample size vs. the 9 players. With 100 responses, the effect of dummies and brainiacs moving in and out is mitigated somewhat. So far, the board is at 53% for week 1 and 40% for week 2. Maybe the first week clues were soft. Maybe they usually are ?.
Disclaimer - repeated exposure to author's musings may cause befuddlement.
