Re: Friday, November 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Joyee had 10000 after the J! round and 12000 for the FJ! round. Only 2000 to the good in the DJ! round is not the way to get through a game. It was a miss for me as well on DD2 as it took a bit to guess the author and then I did not have the time to recall the title. It would have been a FJ! clue solve.
Elise's reaction to the DD3 clue and Alex's follow-up was funny as, yes, a 3-part response is not ordinary.
It would have been embarrassing to miss the FJ! clue since they are regularly featured on The Amazing Race, a show I've watched faithfully from the start. A viewer can learn a lot of things that come up on J! from that program.
Joyee got a shout out in with ATBB Sarah! which he said translated to I love you, Sarah, who could not make it to that day's taping. Even if the judges had put down the hammer and ruled Joyee incorrect he still had 2nd place money locked in assuring him 9201 at worst. Alex interpreted it the other way that he left himself a buck short of Elise at 14800.
Viewers get to see a 4th dress from the Elise collection as no way she followed contestant instructions of 3 outfits sufficient and wearing day 1 again. I've seen lots of guys repeat the debut outfit later in a run.
Elise had control of the board with five clues remaining and DD3 hiding. WINDY CITY POLITICS $400 & $800 were there as well as U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY GRADUATES $400, $1600 & $2000. It's not impossible that Windy $800 had the DD where Elise went though I still felt a higher value clue in Naval was the way to go.
It did not matter as Elise got Windy $800 and then saved yelling at home by switching to Naval to find and convert the last DD.

I matched Seema. I've been having no luck on FJ lately. Good question, tho.

This one at-home judge says take:
garden gnomes (that's what Elise & Joyee had)
gnomes (can't be ruled incorrect since "Garden" was in category name)
lawn gnomes (nothing makes "Lawn" incorrect added information)
and I'm sure there are other variations of the response that would pass muster as well

It was all for naught, but nice job of FJ wagering by Joyee.

Congrats on Elise for her third win; and I think she has potential to becoming a 5-time champion, earning a spot in the next ToC.

She's really good, somehow the thing she struggles with most is pronouncing the category names.jeopardyfan939 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 2:09 pm Congrats on Elise for her third win; and I think she has potential to becoming a 5-time champion, earning a spot in the next ToC.

Coryat: $38,000 (48R, 0W)
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: orthopedist, Oh, The Places You’ll Go! (DD), Saul Alinsky
Nearly ran the table in round 1, missed only 3 (2 of them at the top of Red Alert, for some reason). Geographic AKAs was the weak spot in DJ, couldn’t come up the answers quickly enough with the abbreviated clues. FJ was pretty much an instaget, flowerpot was the only other possibility but the word “eccentric” in the clue gave it away.
If Elise keeps only getting flustered when calling out the categories, she’ll go far

Yeah. Don't know why she insists on calling the full category name every time.nklotz wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 7:22 pmShe's really good, somehow the thing she struggles with most is pronouncing the category names.jeopardyfan939 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 2:09 pm Congrats on Elise for her third win; and I think she has potential to becoming a 5-time champion, earning a spot in the next ToC.

How refreshing it was, to see all three players make optimal wagers for their score situation. Elise had room to glean $199 more for her piggy bank but she did good.Hugo Z wrote: It was all for naught, but nice job of FJ wagering by Joyee.

This was not my board at all. I was 11R 2W in J!, and 5R 0W in DJ!
Google has a parent company? I thought it was just Google.
I knew "oubliette" from Enter the Gungeon but got snagged on "basement" and couldn't backtrack to "dungeon".
Any reason I should know the Chicago riots were in 1968 and not any other years?
No guess on FJ! I have literally never seen a garden gnome in person, so I always figured that they were one of those things that persists in pop culture despite being long-dead in real life. I thought they were in the same folder as other things long forgotten in real life, like pizza places with "30 minutes or it's free" rules, paperboys shouting "Extra! Extra!" on street corners, etc.
