Code: Select all
James: 27200 7400 34600 42000
Ken: 51200 17600 68800 86400
Brad: 17600 10000 27600 37600
James: Bet 3,001 to cover Brad.
Brad: You can overtake James if you're right and he's wrong. Bet it all (or at least 4,000).
*Because there is no functional difference between second and third place in these games, I only include wagering suggestions for James and Brad as a formality.

Game 1: I only had 7 right in DJ, which is probably my worst round in 20+ years. FJ was a slam dunk.
And DAYUM, Ken! Nicely done!

I got the DD that James missed. That's all I remember and I'm taking that with me to my dying day.

Yeah well I got the second FJ and they all missed that! Although James and Brad may have just gone straight to the gags given their position in the game.

Ken and Brad make an excellent team! Ken piles up the points and Brad keeps the daily doubles away from James.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
That kind of sums up what happened today.ClosingTime wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 9:05 pm Ken and Brad make an excellent team! Ken piles up the points and Brad keeps the daily doubles away from James.
Even if James solves DD1 in game 2 of today it does not matter if Brad keeps the more important DD2 and DD3 away from James.
Brad is now 4/9 on DDs so trending up.
Ken was the man today playing only 1/6 DDs while making it count huge.
3/4 for me on the FJ! clues getting the parties both right as well as one director. I matched Ken with (my spelling was Inaritu) with missing the other director. With a little more time I could have worked my way to a switch as near the end of music it hit me that I needed to go with that "Gravity" guy.
Where is that guy who hated the 1998 ToC finals with Dan Melia conducting business against Bob Harris and Kim Worth? There was probably a little too much levity for his taste tonight.
The moment of the hour was Brad finding DD3 in the second game and telling Ken, "You're welcome." James took it well with a hearty laugh and Ken went along with a playful pat on Brad's shoulder.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
James won 32 games, won over 2 million dollars and won the ToC while smashing a bunch of records along the way. His legacy is fine no matter what has happened so far and what happens next week.jeopardyfan939 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 8:38 pmNot looking good for James...sigh. I don't think he's going to win the tournament; I see his legacy getting tarnished.
James getting a little bit outpunched on the buzzer by the Ken Jennings and James needing a bit of fine tuning on his DD search-ometer is no shame.
Ken has taken various hits over the years in the special events and his legacy still stands fine win or lose in the GOAT.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I think that may have been one of my favourite hours of Jeopardy. Lots of great games over the years, but I enjoyed these ones tonight.
The writers stepped up their game for prime time! Fun categories. I just wish one of them would have finished Lizzo's lyric the other day for the category "I took a DNA test".
(Missed some questions first match, no personal Coryat. 24,300 2nd match)

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
He may not win, but James has had a run of bad luck. The only one whose legacy might be getting tarnished is Brad, and that could be due to playing against two guys with legendary buzzer skill and knowledge base along with some bad luck (timing of the DDs as well as their difficulty).jeopardyfan939 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 8:38 pmNot looking good for James...sigh. James has actually had fairly bad luck to this point but has done quite well.

I think Brad and his 5M$ from jeopardy over 20 years will be fine.

Game 2 FJ.... kicking myself. I've been drilling on Oscar winners, so I have no excuse. Got Cuarón but I couldn't get Iñárritu out of my head fast enough to think further back.
Ken came to play. I have to say, I underestimated him and erroneously assumed he'd have lost a step over all these years.

Probably my second-favorite thing about today's match was getting Lach Trash on Morticia Addams, Bring Your Own Device, and keylogger. On Brad's DD, I think I would have said melancholy but been prepared to switch quickly to melancholia.
For size/seize I said mass/amass, but I think I'd get an "ooh, sorry" for that.
