U.S. REPRESENTATIVES $1200: 1/53 of California's House Delegation is this [image shown] Intelligence Committee Chairman

Crickets! Hope he's watching tonight.

Veronica was a wash on the DDs with 3000 to the good and 3000 to the bad. If Veronica had solved DD3 then it would have been enough for a lock as time ran out before that last $1600 clue could be played. (TJF - forgot to include that bit for you, oops)

The FJ! clue had me caught me with a distracting option that would not go away. I wrote the famous Sendak work as I knew 1963 was its year and of course Max is the boy. At the same time I knew I was wrong since its award was the Caldecott. Newbery told me to look for something longer and I could not get there in time.

The category had me optimistic to get back on the horse after 0/3 on FJ! clues yesterday and not to be today. Nice double solve by Veronica and Oishee as I could see it going skunk or one some other days.

Veronica's Coryat stock is in a downward trend with 21800 to 15800 to 11200. She will need to reverse the spiral if she wants to sniff the ToC.

A big nope for me on FJ. Children's literature is a black hole in my knowledge base. Randomly guessing a Dr. Seuss title was the best I could do.

Haven't seen the episode yet, but I spied the FJ! clue while wager-snooping, so I played it. Almost an instaget for me, because I remember reading and loving the book in fifth grade, and reading a few other Madeleine L'Engle books. I even saw the critically panned Oprah movie a year or two ago. Hadn't read the book in years (I'm talking about the age of the original NES), so it took me a second to go from "the Madeleine L'Engle book" to "A Swiftly Tilting Planet" to "no, the famous one that had a movie". The one weird detail I remembered from the book was the Orwellian bouncing of balls by children in unison near the end...and it made it into the movie. I guess this was the start of my interest in adult dystopian novels - 1984 and Brave New World are two of my favorites, and I still need to get around to reading Fahrenheit 451. But I'm way too old for Hunger Games.

30 seconds of staring and trying to think of a picture book along the lines of Where the Wild Things Are or Make Way for Ducklings. Dude, that's the Caldecott.

Incidentally, the 1963 Caldecott was The Snowy Day, which, as was noted in the current events thread, was recently declared NYPL's most checked-out book.

Archive play-through:

Coryat $28,600 (39 R, 2 W)
DD 3/3
FJ :(

DJ was pretty rough. Three brainfarts on $2000 clues that I should have gotten. Getting a TV category in DJ is always bad news for me. I was proud to have run the geography category where the contestants went 0/5, though.

No, they would have said "Who is Dan Briggs?", I'm sure.

Something tells me Sean Hannity is laughing on the inside.

PS: KNEW Chattahoochee from living in Auburn (AL) when I was little.

We could make a knowledge trade as I was 4/5 in TV with only (guy who played Hannibal) the occupation unknown to me while 1/5 in the geo only getting DD3.

For some reason, I said Duncan Hunter instead of Adam Schiff. Not only is he in the minority party, but he resigned in disgrace.

Coryat: $36,200 (43R, 2W)
DD: 2/3
FJ:
LT: skeleton, Rio Grande & Colorado, Pacific Ocean, Labrador, Steve Scalise, satellites, Adam Schiff, Hispaniola (DD)

As painful as yesterday’s was pleasant. Couldn’t believe they went 0/5 in Border Rivers. I felt bad for Veronica on the last DD, guessing she must have frozen up.

Only ran Easy As A_B_D today (precalled aboard and abetted). Mixed up Sotomator with Kagan, I can never get that right :D

Instaget FJ.

My kindred spirit! I randomly guessed The Little Prince because...what do we keep reading here?...any answer is better than no answer (even if it's not much better).

Deep Sigh.

* but at least I recognize Adam ("Shifty") Schiff.

Jeers to the contestants for running to Netflix to start DJ
Double jeers for going 0-5 on border rivers (How is Labrador a TS?) :o
Triple jeers for the crickets on head Inquisitor Adam #+@&*! And the nearly murdered Steve Scalise. :x
'63 children's book on Relativity & Quantum Theory? Pure WECIB :geek:

These boards seemed very difficult today.

Last two categories of the J! round made me want to sing "America, F*** Yeah".

NHO "The Prince of Tides" or "The Great Santini". Poll request?

"Polar" = hitman also seemed insanely obscure for the top box.

Absolutely no guess on FJ! The clues were just leading me nowhere. It didn't help that "children's literature" had me thinking of picture books, not novels. I read A Wrinkle in Time in 4th grade, but it went entirely in one ear and out the other for the entire class so I remember literally nothing from it.

Lach Trash: Rio Grande/Colorado, Pacific, Chattahoochee (thanks, Alan Jackson), Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach

While I didn't actually pull the full title, is anyone going to join in for "Mr. Tompkins in Wonderland"? It is dead nuts for the physics references, but I didn't think it was that modern (It's from 1939 by George Gamow, the Richard Feynman of the time). I NHO "A Wrinkle in Time" until lately, I guess it's a movie or something. I will give myself an "OK Boomer".

The border rivers were HARD. I said Red River and Rio Grande for Texas. Hispaniola I got, but didn't know there was a river there. You want to be born on the right side of that river instead of the wrong side of the tracks. I spaced out and said Devin Nunes for the Congressman. His pissing away of $100 million of taxpayer money on bogus Benghazi investigations bought him name recognition at least (ETA - it was Trey Gowdy, correction courtesy of A Wray).

Scalise can take a seat behind Gabby Giffords in my brain attic. Do something useful and I'll make room.
