Re: Monday, January 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Well done by Dennis for knowing how to open play in NIAGARA FALLS with the proper "Slowly I Turned" cadence. Credit to Superman II for my knowing the name of the water vehicle there.
At DD3 Traci led 16200 to 9700 to 8200 with $3600 remaining on the board. She did +1000 and then proceeded to call $400 clues three times while the $2000 in LIBRARIES sat there. It turned out not to matter as even $2000 more would not have given Traci the lock she needed.
In a scenario of Dennis getting all of the $3600 remaining to have 13300 for the FJ! round and 26600 potentially that would mean Traci would have needed to bet 10400 on the DD. Yeah, not going to happen. With the warning given earlier it was very likely time was going to run out.
If Traci was trying to get the $2000 not played then that is $1600 in clues that could have pushed Dennis to 11300 or 22600. That still required Traci to bet over 6000. Again, that is simply not going to happen.
Dennis got the sole solve and got the ultimate reward for it.
Traci seemed quite good on material with the "fun stuff" and I suspect Lucario will not be posting a 59/59 game.
The FJ! category had me dreading sorting through position switches in the 2000s. The clue instead was turn back the clock and I recalled enough from U.S. History in high school to know the positions. From there the women who had the relevant roles are famous enough to have stuck in the memory banks. [Wipes brow]

Got FJ but had to think through it. Started by thinking of female cabinet secretaries, but that got complicated quickly. Then went to which cabinet departments existed under Washington and it became a quick solve.

Re: Monday, January 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The 385,000th clue in the Archive opened the game. The 380,000th clue was entered on Oct. 30, 2019 if anyone wants to be a Nostradumbass and prognosticate when the Archive will reach the 400,000th milestone.
Dennis won the game with a 13R & 4W which is not easy to do.

Sitting here with an open correction suggestion about whether "thirtysomething" should start with a capital "t" or not.
The archive is inconsistant, and I guess I prefer it that way. Close tab.

Traci here -- I am in fact good at the "fun stuff" I guess? I'm also good at the non-fun stuff. And yes, that DD wager haunts me to this day.

Re: Monday, January 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Welcome, Traci! This was an enjoyable game to watch, and your enthusiasm was one thing that made it so. I stood at the same podium many years ago, and upon watching my tape, I realized that I had a grim expression on my face as if my dog had just died. (I came in second, too. Curse of the Third Podium.)

Thank you! I haven't seen the game yet so hopefully I look way less nervous than I was.
Re: Monday, January 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Ran "Step" by Step, Holidays, and Hidden Treasure
Absolutely no recognition whatsoever in Emmy Winners.
Libraries for $400 was MASSIVE negbait for "films/movies". I was so jarred by that being wrong that I literally couldn't think of another thing that it could possibly be. I think that caught the contestants off-guard too.
Ny brain just completely switched off and I couldn't think of any Cabinet positions. I didn't know that Secretary of State or Attorney General were part of the Cabinet.
Lach Trash: groundhog, Ash Wednesday, Alan Alda

Coryat: $31,000 (43R, 2W)
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: groundhog, Ash Wednesday, Alan Alda
Blitzed SJ (ran Niagara Falls, Slowly I Turned and “Step” By Step) and struggled mightily with DJ (shut out on French Arts and Culture). Missed my first $2000 in a while when I misplaced UNIVAC with ENIAC.
Instaget FJ, I was 95% sure those would’ve been Cabinet posts from the beginning.

You looked fine. Even if we hadn't seen what we saw last week. But damn, you looked you were going to cruise to victory. Sorry it didn't happen for you! And we here at Chez alietr were impressed with your pop culture knowledge.Traci_on_J! wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 7:06 pm Thank you! Re: Monday, January 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The usual "Old Guy" gets: LT on "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" (which I read when it was a cult favorite in the 70s). Univac, Folies Bergeres (sp?), Alan Alda. But of course not close to a 4th-podium win.
Then DANG! Brain-farted and named the wrong First Lady Bush on the last DD.
Nice, well-played game by all three. Traci, thanks for coming by, and hope you come back; plus too bad about losing the game on a tough FJ.
Idle question: Pre-Columbian meso-Americans had vulcanization? Who knew? I got this right from the context/TOM, but never knew that.

Others might remember it from The Office or from Wonderfalls. Some will remember it from, you know, having been on it. Back in 1974. Good to see the old girl's still chugging away.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 11:04 am Well done by Dennis for knowing how to open play in NIAGARA FALLS with the proper "Slowly I Turned" cadence. Wonderfalls! I'd been looking for somewhere to watch that, and never found anywhere. I had only seen the first episode and it seemed so promising that I still want to see the rest of them.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 8:22 pmOthers might remember it from The Office or from Wonderfalls.
