Another rough game with five clues not played, only 18600 Combined Coryat, under 40 correct responses, $5201 winning the game, all 3 DDs missed...

Alex could have won this game from the 4th podium while being in the dark on the material ahead of time. He certainly would have known the MONUMENTAL TELEVISION TS clues along with enough of the others that got by the players today.

Travis was 1/1 on big clues which was enough to eke out the victory while Kathryn was 0/3 and Nipun was 0/2.

A miss for me on the FJ! clue to hit a cold streak of 3. I did "orintho" to get to bird and "paradoxus" got me thinking strange. I wrote "dodo" for a quick instinct and crossed that out for being Mauritius as New South Wales meant Australia. I looked at the category again and also realized "Mammal". Still getting nowhere and having trouble to keep the category in mind I next wrote, "Tas" before stopping.

Back to bird thinking I wrote "ostrich". Mammal, you idiot! With time running out the next weird animal that occurred to me was "wombat" for the last thing I wrote. As marsupial hit me I knew it was a lost cause.

What I should have done was stuck on the Latin more as it would have been possible for me to do a bird nose mammal from Australia shortcut to be done quickly. As often happens this is not my kind of clue.

Good for Travis to get it and win going forward with 5201 instead of a TS miss win with 4799.

Duh, it just hit me that I got yesterday's FJ! clue right. One miss streak is better than the three I was thinking.

“Jambo” is far more common as greeting than “mambo.”

Just a stinker of a game.

Well, those FJ wagers were certainly sub-optimal.

I was going to say unusual, but then...... 8-)

As a Winnie-the-Pooh fan, I must protest that Hundred Acre Woods, like Revelations, is flat out wrong. Luckily, the gang was emanciptated from there when they got lost.

Thank you to Fred Rogers for helping with this FJ.

Golf, the "Woods" thing bugged me too.

And thanks to JBoard for coming through for those of us actively playing along with the muted, captioned TV in a car dealership service waiting area. Just before FJ, WLS-TV cut away to Iowa Caucuses coverage and never went back. Thanks to JBoard, I was able to read aloud the clue, contestant responses, and final results from my phone on the spot.

That's certainly been my experience (on Funny Safari).

Nice FJ clue, I thought.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Survive and advance, guys. You play to win the game, and Travis did. 5 Gs or 50, he's a two-day champ, and gets to come back next time. Good for him.
Platypus was my pre-call.

Coryat $36,800 (46 R, 1 W)
DD 2/3
FJ

$10,400 in LT gave me the fourth podium lock-tie.

Tons of TOM in the FJ clue. "Australia bird-nose strange"....

Grr... not knowing Harry Potter characters kept me from a perfect J! round. Need to study HP, it comes up a lot.

Had a lackluster but not horrible DJ. Didn't know Diego = James. Just added David Foster Wallace = Infinite Jest to my Anki deck the other day, but couldn't pull it. Negged with volcano on the Iceland one.

Not often, if ever, that they show family members in the audience.

I thought the DJ board trickier than usual.

Gilbert Collins had his family shown.

You know it's a bizarre game when I brainfart like, six clues and still manage a higher Coryat than all three contestants combined.

Ran Irritable Owl.

Also knew Jackie Gleason = Honeymooners but the character name wasn't ringing any bells.

NHO "lake district". Poll request?

What animal from Australia would be paradoxical? Gotta be the platypus. Knowing that "platypus" is ornitorrinco in Spanish sealed the deal for me.

Lach Trash: Vintner, Model A, Dodge City, Hawaiian, Clint Eastwood. Also got the muscles and Plymouth DDs.

It's probably below 100 times over 36 season though definitely in the multiple dozens for family members shown. It can be a celebratory shot, proposal, something connected to chat... Even better was the kid who wanted to host and got to be on stage with Alex. Mom lost? No biggie.

Coryat: $35,000 (45R, 0W)
DD: 1/3
FJ:
LT ($7,800): vintner, A, liver, Ralph Kramden, Dodge City, Plymouth (DD), Bleak House, Hawaiian, Clint Eastwood

Clean fourth-podium win! Ran the entire first-round board with the exception of the DD, which I really should’ve gotten as well but couldn’t remember what the heck fibromyalgia was. DJ was significantly tougher, missed all of the $2K clues.

FJ was a prime example of Remember The Category, I wrote down emu based on the Ornitho- part of the clue until I realized I needed to be looking for a MAMMAL. From there it was a short drive from Paradoxus to the correct answer.

I noticed the 2nd place wager opening the door for 3rd to win the game, (or make it a tiebreaker given her actual wager), did not even notice that the leader bet it all. Shame we didn't get the common all-in from 2nd, could have been the recipe for a $1 win!

I did successfully pre-call that at least 1 of the 3 would name a bird rather than a mammal. Certainly easy to lose track of the category if you are scrambling for a response, I was in that area for several of the 30 seconds before finding my way.

Travis messed with Texas & lived to tell the tale.
TL;DR & no Atlas Shrugged?
FJ was rather straightforward.
