Learned League 84

Post by boson »

This thread is for friendly discussions of LL84, in winter/spring 2020. Many jboard members are learned league players - a referral-only online trivia league. Board members in good standing (ie who have posted to jboard without causing problems for some time) are welcome to ask for a referral here.

NO discussion of live questions. Wait until the results are released to discuss the questions of the day, including vague generalities.

Just to clarify, no discussion of live questions means no comments at all. It is more than just giving an answer. You can’t say how many you got right or things like “Those were hard today”.

Private rundle

Post by boson »

I set up a private rundle:
rundle name: Jboardom
Registration code: llamatastic

Private rundles are open to all learned league members at the premier or commissioner 's circle payment level. You can join one private rundle per season. If you are reading this and this applies to you, you are welcome!

However, the last few seasons have had some pretty stiff competition- certainly A rundle level play, that has turned some people off. This isn't the intention, I just like having a second match a day against friendly competition.

I know that some groups (the 'women of jeopardy facebook group', for instance) have two private rundles: one for AB players, and one for CDE. I can only set up one private rundle. If another boardie at the commissioner's circle wants to set up a second private rundle, that would be great.

For me, I kind of like the tough competition of trying to match some great players here. My humility needs a workout too.

Thanks for setting this up again, boson. And I’ll second your comment about the level of competition. It usually plays at a high A level, by which I mean that I typically do better in my A Rundle than I do in the private one. It’s not for the faint of heart.

PM me if you would like to have yourself listed/delisted. If you give me your LL name, I can set it up indefinitely via the power of Excel and data pivots.

If another boardie at the commissioner's circle wants to set up a second private rundle, that would be great.

I (MearesK) have a premier membership and will be happy to create a rundle for dummies (and people who want to beat up on them, lol..). I've only played 3 seasons and will make it back to D this season after being relegated to E my sophomore season. It makes no difference to me who whups on me, but I will be happy to sponsor(?) the rundle if there is an interest. I think we don't want too many different private rundles for the limited number of boardies , so I will wait a couple of days for feedback or suggestions. Do we want 3, or just 2 boardie related private rundles?

If someone else wants to be the creator, I'd like to give the private rundles a go this season. Sounds like fun, and how much money can I lose?

I believe you need to be at the Commissioner's Circle level to create a private rundle.

I just checked the rules on LL and that is correct.

Sorry, I read through that at the end of the posting and just latched onto the "Private rundles are open to all learned league members at the premier or commissioner 's circle payment level." part of the post.

I just upgraded my current membership (ends August) to get this superpower. I didn't really choose the premier level in the first place, I just paid a random amount more than the basic membership in to support LL. When it becomes effective I can create JboardD or whatever floats anyone's boat. I don't want to step on anyone else's dance card. How many players have joined the private rundle previously?

It hasn't been huge - as many as 10 people in previous seasons, but perhaps this is due to the fact that there are some heavy hitters making the game not fun for those who don't answer ~4-5 questions a day. It could also be that many people don't have the premier membership ( the benefits aren't huge).

So: if twelvefootboy sets up a second jboard private rundle, would anyone sign up? The rundle I created is open, and all are welcome, but the first 4 members are all in an A rundle.

I am a tightwad and only do the basic membership. But I think a “minor league” private rundle would draw interest from those avoiding it now.

This will be my first season at the A level.

Suffice to say, I'm terrified!

This private rundle is still open until Wednesday evening!
If you would like to join, you are welcome. We currently have 7 registrants - an odd number, which isn't allowed. We need at least one more to allow all who have registered to play.

I'm not sure any other jboard rundle was set up. If you want to set another one up, it needs to be now to allow people time to register.

I'd join the C/D/E rundle certainly, as I am a D player who barely got promoted to C this year and it would be nice to have a chance for a win or 2...

The rundle is created!

name: JBoardB
Registration Code: AlexTrebek (case sensitive). I know it is awful late, but at least we'll get a notion of the lay of the land. I will aspire to finish with an 0-24-1 record or better :).
I will double post this info for some reason.

Repeat of announcement of last second chance to jump into the minor league Rundle:

The rundle is created!

name: JBoardB
Registration Code: AlexTrebek (case sensitive).

All comers welcome, but I don't want to siphon off players from the major league team.

Last few hours to join either private rundle! We have an odd number in jboardom, so we welcome at least 1 more!
