Re: Tuesday, March 3, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The players had a nice combined Coryat of 43,200 though literature was problematic at times. Anna Karenina for the lost Romanov daughter was a howler and the head scratching TS clues were the Looking Glass twins and the Dickens alliterative title guy. By the time of the Patricia Highsmith guy clue I figured that would have crickets chirping.
The FJ! clue going 1/3 seemed to fit the pattern although it's more Latin deciphering than book knowledge.
I used crossword puzzle repetition of "Ova" to work from that to guess the correct book.
4,4 $1200: A note that lets a student escape the classroom & walk the corridors during class time
I don't know if it's regional, generational or only in my mind, but I had "pass slip" as the term instead of the better response of "hall pass". Judges? Or even anyone else who recalls that as the usage?
After the J! round there was an audience shot showing Aaron watching the game. Hmmm, he was wearing the same thing he had on yesterday. That has to be very rare for a player from the previous day to be shown in the audience the next day. Good for Aaron for sticking around as it's just as easy to bolt from the studio and call it a day if one (or one's family) chooses.

$34,800 Coryat. I think getting back on day shifts has recharged my brain.
Ran "List", Immaculate Inception. My only misses in J! were hydrogen bomb, ham, Akron, Gwen Stefani, Lannister, and A Comedy of Errors, but I feel I could have pulled the latter three with another second or two.
Also ran 4, 4 and Luke in DJ!
That was a tough set of Parenthetical Song Titles.
Ova = Eggs. Kids' book with "egg" in the title? Uh... "virent" sounds like verde/veridian/green, so let's do Green Eggs and Ham.
Lach Trash: Philistine, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Nicholas Nickelby

Ditto. I am curious what the exact, literal translation of the Latin title is (probably nothing more interesting than 'green eggs! green ham!!').TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 7:28 pm Ova = Eggs. I'd BMS you. Petrification is a specific type of fossilization.

Coryat $38,000 (45R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ
First time since Weds I didn't choke on a gettable FJ, and first time since Weds 3/3 on DDs. Coulda guessed Tartuffe if I were desperate, but clammed.
If not for the word "Ova" I wouldn't have gotten the FJ.

I was able to get egg, but got lost trying to think of a book with a two sentence title.

I'll join the others on FJ where ova was the giveaway word.
Well played board, not much trash . Best pickup for me was "Brass in Pocket"

I was a slow pony today. Missing nearly all of the "List" category, even though I have heard of every word. Just took me a little longer than I'd like to get to the answer. I did run 4,4 though, so I dunno what the issue was for me. Music was horrible for me. Is "Dude" enough, or "The Dude" necessary?
I should probably read up on Moliere.
Now swimming in the J! pool.

FJ was definitely not an instaget for me, but about halfway through I thought, "Ova--eggs," i.e. oval-shaped or ovaries. Not the easiest FJ ever, but not the hardest either.

Re: Tuesday, March 3, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I'm posting earlier than usual to claim the first flop on FJ.
I took everything too literally and tried to think of some ancient fable that might have been around since the Romans. And the ova = egg was obvious and the v-words were probably related to either "green" or "life". My only excuse is that Green Eggs and Ham is by no means a children's book if it's in Latin .
They got those obscure Lord of the Flies characters and took the gaspipe on Tweedledumdee?

Re: Tuesday, March 3, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I got FJ right. 1/2 this week so far.
The similar sounding viret/virent, connecting that to "vert", and connecting "ova" to "oeuf" (and the fact that eggs are oval-shaped) was pretty much all I needed.

So nobody noticed or wants to mention Bruce's math error in FJ resulting in him not making a cover wager?
Or perhaps I'm the one who can't do math......

Re: Tuesday, March 3, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Coryat: 46,200
54 R/1 W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: Philistine, Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, Gwen Stefani, "How Sweet It Is", "Brass In Pocket"
"Perna" is "leg" in Portuguese, so I started there. After that went nowhere, I went for the structure of the title and thought of Goodnight, Moon, considering that maybe the moon could look like an egg. Then I was like, duh, egg + words that are fairly close to "verde." I do like this clue, Matty I am.
Were I more current/diligent in my studies, I would have had the confidence to ring in with Tartuffe. Gotta get back at it.

"Dude" is actually the correct answer. It's questionable whether "The Dude" should have been accepted, given that that phrase appears in neither the title nor the song's lyrics. J! doesn't usually penalize for the inclusion or exclusion of leading articles, though, so I guess it's fine.
Sprinkles are for winners.

Eagle-eyed viewers--which doesn't include me, since I found out by googling his name--may recognize the interviewer as 2011 Teen Tournament champion Raynell Cooper.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 11:33 amBruce a little younger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEzxUmpN9hUCasualJeopardyFan19 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 11:28 am Shame to see Bruce go out so early; he was a fun contestant!
