Double bucks on the Indy clue with the neg, rebound, reversal. Why do players have to complicate things? Just give the expected response and don't throw the show for a loop. Lauren is lucky there was a loophole to save her on that one.

Lauren's end game was not enough to save her as she found DD3 at clue 29. She was trailing 18800 to 17000 and bet $2000 to try for the lead. One problem was there was still a $2000 clue remaining and problem number two was she could not solve the Daily Double anyway.

It would have been awful for Lauren if she had solved DD3 and then lost that precious lead on clue 30 due to leaving Ben an opening.

Ben kept his lead for the FJ! round and that was the spot to be with a clue begging for a triple solve. My solve was the description sounded gothic, aha, writing, music starts, oh that 1831 work - of course, and then I thought of the current event which reminded me of the window. Plenty of paths and others could have a different order.

8 games done and the finals come down to W1, W3 and W4 from the QF round. Bring it on.

A silly stat to add occurred to me. Of eight games the winner (including Meggie & Ben twice each) has come from the champ's spot except for Will winning twice from the middle position.

For the Finals (based on scores from the Semis) it will be Ben once again at the champ's spot while Meggie moves to the middle and Will goes to the other end.

Quick get in FJ. Yes, if you can guarantee a pre-FJ lead with no risk of slipping into third there is no reason not to do so. On the other hand, Ben took a chance ringing in on the last clue.

Alex gives us a Belgian accent for Poirot and whatever that was for McCarthy (he was from Wisconsin, not Mississippi) but he couldn’t help us out with a German accent on Kissinger?

Should be a good final round.

Meggie was W2.
My method is winning QF amount and nothing about day played if that is the confusion.

Ben: 23,678
Jong Ho: 23,370
Will: 22,400
Meggie: 21,601
Amanda: 17,600

They had to expect "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark". The film has been solicited that way on video for many years. You would be hard-pressed to find any modern video release of it without that title on the box.
Not many people can say they've lost four times on Jeopardy!.

Ran "DE".

Naturally a fancy-schmancy food (chutney) costs me the run in Mustard or Mayo. However, I did match garlic to aioli this time.

Once again DJ! eats my lunch with only 7R 1W.

NHO any of those math terms except $400. Also NHO "hot rollers".

Rack, Shack, and Benny is a story I'm familiar with, but have never managed to match it to a Bible book.

No guess on FJ!

I was happy when Alex ruled her wrong but I knew a reversal was coming.

He did something for Kissinger but I'm not sure what. Definitely didn't help me.

Yeah, the McCarthy thing was funny. I wonder if Alex was doing Johnny Iselin from The Manchurian Candidate.

Same here, although my dad got it once Trebek hinted that it was in the news last year.
It's the end of the journey that counts.

Well, this was a heck of a game. Lauren and Ben were really going at it. Fun to watch. Either one (or Sam, for that matter) would have made a worthy third for the final, but only one of them could advance. Congrats to Ben. It's going to be Clash of the Titans tomorrow and Friday. My money's on Meggie, but just barely.

I was surprised by the neg on the Indiana Jones clue. I thought everyone knew the original had been re-branded for franchise purposes.

DD3 might have worked better as an FJ. I only got it by pausing playback and thinking through the parts. Louis XIV --> Sun King + "fittingly" + "mother of this Roman god" --> who was Apollo's mother? Wait, her name's already in the clue. Latona, right? They're giving me that. They just want who she's the mother of. "Who is Apollo?" Final response, Alex.

Funny to see "hot rollers" go begging. That's more of a girly clue, but the only woman on stage clearly has no need for the things. She wakes up like that!

Had FJ before Alex was done reading. Spent the Think music deciding whether I wanted to write "Cathedral" at the end. The competing questions in mind were "What if Notre Dame on its own isn't enough for some reason?" and "Are you SURE it's a cathedral and not some other kind of church building?" The answers, respectively, were "Of course it's enough. Don't be an idiot," and "Yes, I'm sure." I ended up including it.

I did about 10 seconds of precalling for FJ!: Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Brandenberg Gate, and London Bridge. Last one was a bad precall, as EUROPE generally means NOT GREAT BRITAIN, but the first two got me in the right mindset. I stalled for a little bit, until I reread the clue and noticed the part about the 1831 book. Well, why would they be talking about a book if it's not a novel...and perhaps the novel has a European landmark in the title of it? Bingo! The date honestly didn't help me - that book could have been written anytime from 1700 to 1900 for my knowledge of it. But it was enough to get Notre Dame, and as soon as Alex started saying "Unfortunately, it's been in the news", I knew I had a get.

Sue Grafton. Sue Grafton. SUE GRAFTON!! Can we go just maybe two or three months without a Sue Grafton clue? (Okay, we've got 4 months. But there's been 4 in the past year, so that's about right on average.)

How does Alex decide to do an accent for McCarthy, but not for Kissinger? I mean, Alex could have given them both away easily.

I kinda thought there might be a reversal on Raiders of the Lost Ark, but I left Indiana Jones off. I kind of knew that the series didn't start off with "Indiana Jones and...", but I thought it would be very picky to neg for add that, and I'm glad they marketed it as "Indiana Jones and..." so that Lauren could get credit. I like rewarding knowledge, not ultra-precision.

For all the flack Lauren caught for her DD wager - how about Ben buzzing in on the last clue? Honestly, if the last clue had been "Name a color", and I had the opportunity to slow-motion think it thorough, I would not buzz in if I were Ben. He was ahead 18800-7200-15000, and risks Lauren getting the lead on a rebound, or risks Sam being in perhaps better position. Granted, maybe Ben was confident on the last clue, and I can't say I would be actively thinking about that if I were on stage - I'd just be trying to get points.

I've looked it over and over for the last few minutes, and I see no problem with my answer, so I will come to you judges for a ruling:

Particle accelerator for Large Hadron Collider?

I see no hint that they were looking for the specific CERN collider, but just "this device" that it is...
