Yeah, I've got to accept I'm getting relegated...five games of glory...15 of massive beatdown. 97 correct answers against -and four games still to go- so my ..."record" of 105 is easily going to get stomped.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Apparently "silicone" was accepted for the silicon/aluminum question which required two elements. How are you supposed to be able to put up an informed defense when clearly wrong answers are being allowed.

Poor spelling is allowed. I know silicone is something different from silicon, but also a reasonble misspelling of silicon. This decision is consistent with lots of previous rulings.

I realize that he has sole discretion of what he considers correct, but this is like saying that John Q Adams is a reasonable misspelling of John Adams when asking for the 2nd president or Revelations for Revelation It's still wrong and it's BS.

Anyone else having a roller coaster of a season? Here's my tally of correct answers so far in LL85:
MDs 1-5: 26. 2-0-3
MDs 6-10: 18. 0-4-1
MDs 11-15: 28. 4-0-1
MDs 16-20: 11. 1-3-1.
And on MD21 I pull a 6-pack. I know, A Rundle problems, but... almost makes me wonder if Thorsten doesn't break up the question sets into groups of five weighted by difficulty. Eleven right in five days might be my worst week ever. (Turns out I started LL60 in a similar funk, but one of those was a forfeit.)
ETA won/loss/tie data
MDs 1-5: 26. 2-0-3
MDs 6-10: 18. 0-4-1
MDs 11-15: 28. 4-0-1
MDs 16-20: 11. 1-3-1.

Not me. Other than the last "week", I've been pretty consistent: 18, 18, 19, 11. My CAA seems to follow your pattern a bit closer, though: 20, 18, 22, 11.

Stated on the message board that silica was also accepted. Thorsten must have anticipated these answers and decided beforehand that they would all be accepted. I wonder whether anyone answered and was credited for alum.... Well, not really.econgator wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 4:47 pmI realize that he has sole discretion of what he considers correct, but this is like saying that John Q Adams is a reasonable misspelling of John Adams when asking for the 2nd president or Revelations for Revelation It's still wrong and it's BS.
How about if somebody wild guessed "elements 13 and 14", having no idea what they are? Ok, I'm being silly, but that's a better answer, even if it's not exactly in the spirit of the question.
Will tomorrow's set have a question on "(The) Invisible Man?"
Yes, too much time on my hands at this very moment.

When I read this post, I expected something along the same lines, but it turned out to be 24-24-24-21. I'm having my second worst season for Qpct in my personal history, and I am in 1st place in A Continental. I was judged to be correct with “silica.” Science isn’t my strongest area but I was able to see si-al & went from there. I’m in 4th place in my rundle. I hope it’s a ton of geography next week!

Best season ever, but rapidly turning south. This isn't a roller coaster but a steep hill going sown and I'm doing what I can to hold up. 4 more days to stay in championship qualifying, and keep my goal qpct, but a couple more theatre or tv questions and it will all be over.

Very close to mine, Andy. 25-22-25-18. Perhaps interestingly, my records for those four periods were 2-3,3-1-1, 3-1-1 and 1-3-1, respectively.

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread
Silica is a lot better derivative answer than silicone. Geologically speaking, the heavy hitters are magnesium and aluminum silicates with various substitutions of other light elements and various degrees of hydration and hydroxylation. Silicone, however, is reserved for production of other types of mountains.

4 points separate 5th from 17th, so almost anyone can end up relegated.
And KendallDH, sorry about Friday. I know the names + ingredients of about 3 drinks, and Fuzzy Navel is one of those. I believe TPH calls it his Smoot-Hawley Principle. I can name 1 skateboarding trick easily, and it's an Ollie. You played correct defense, just unlucky on what I happened to know out of that set.
For the Q about Fiji, I think someone here mentioned it ages ago, but an app called World Geography helped me. It's drilled in my brain that the 3 official languages are English, Hindi, and Fijian, so I figured it had to be India. That app has helped quite a bit for other things, too. I'd suggest it--simplistic and effective!

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread
from the depths of a D rundle:
15-15-17-9
With only 2 wins, the W/L is irrelevant. I get thumped on good days and bad days . The players get their A game up against me. My CAA leads the rundle with 78, vs the next highest of 70 and an average of 62.
