TD 448 - 42 [Final results]

Post by clt013 »

This is the 42nd TD that I have hosted and also should have been (I think) week 42 of the 36th Jeopardy! season. Therefore, the title for this quiz is "42" and all questions are based on three ways (2 x 21, 3 x 14, 6 x 7) to get to that number.

Rules/Notes
1) Lowest point total wins; your score for each question is equal to the total number of players submitting that same answer
2) You may use one drop and take zero points for one question
3) You may elect to take the "sheep" (most popular) answer for one question
4) Wrong responses are the "sheep" answer +4
5) All answers are due by 8 AM Central time on Monday, June 29, 2020 (Note: This deadline is subject to be extended based on my availability to score responses.)
6) If you need clarification on a clue, want to verfiy your responses or have other questions please PM me. If you're not sure something is a correct answer, don't use it.
7) No outside research (Google key, etc.) please.
8) Submit answers via this Google form or PM

Disappointed there's no Douglas Adams category.

Also, this is the second TD in a row not to explicitly ban outside research. Are we assuming we'll never another new player who doesn't know that rule?

Guilty as charged - I have never actually included that line in the "Rules/Notes" section, but you make a good point about new players so I will change that.

This will be the third (in a row) TD that I've ever played, so I'm a newbie - and even with the first one, it honestly never occurred to me to Google. I mean, 99.99% of the questions are readily Googlable, right? If that's allowed, then it's basically just playing the luck game.

(Confession: Yeah, I'll Google AFTER I submit - but never before.)

The first contest I ever won (way back in 1992) couldn't be run today because of Google - the radio station I listened to had a "lost lyrics" contest where you had to name a song from its lyrics. I forget the song, but I got it right, and got two tickets to "The Mambo Kings". I never went.

You may (or may not) be on to something. ;)

Though not always alphabetical, sometimes (but certainly not always) I purposely arrange the clues / correct answers in a particular order.

Yeah... politics...

Considering Florida was the only one I knew, I actually considered taking what was essentially a 50/50 shot at a random state, since I saw California, Texas, and New York weren't part of the list.

Thanks for the TD. I have snapped a much too long losing streak. Just under a year!

Thank you for hosting clt013 and great game floridagator!

I wish I could have had more free time to analyze this one, but it still would have taken a herculean effort and lots of luck to beat a 16. I'll assume I lost because I forgot to put "13" at the end of my name on the answer sheet :D

Looking forward to the next one!

Okay, so the strategy of having Siri roll a random number and answering that question did NOT work out....thanks for the TD! It was fun! And thanks for accepting "rocks of the solar system" or whatever nonsense I put - I knew it wasn't planets thanks to Asteroids, but I felt a little iffy putting "rocks" since Jupiter was on the list. Wikipedia says there may be a rocky core there, so *shrug*
