In 1984 I probably did not get this FJ! clue right while after seeing this game the show made sure I was edumacated about calendar trivia.

Double digits again for clues W and clues not played.

I think there was one more but I don't have the date.

6/12/98 wasn't a three-way tie; one player finished in the negative. There were also a Seniors Tournament game and another season 1 game in 1985 that ended in triple zeroes.

I wonder if Greg ever thinks about what might have been. The wager was obviously crazy but if he gets it right, he has himself quite an impressive 2-day total. Maybe he wins three more games, gets to the TOC, wins enough to qualify for the UTOC..... alternate universe stuff.

Did Alex announce a nominal winner at the end of that game?

Haven't seen the "live" version of it yet, but found it on the archive.

"Because all of our contests wound up with nothing, we have consolation prizes for each of them. Tomorrow on Jeopardy!, we'll be bringing in 3 new players to play the game. But our champion, Greg, is not leaving us empty-handed, he won $8,400 in cash on our last program."

So, no, he didn't mention specifically that Greg and Lynne got the second-place range and dinnerware, while Paul got the third-place exercise equipment, due to their ranking in DJ!. I've always thought in the modern incarnation of J!, ties for 2nd and 3rd should split the money - $1500 each. IMO, triple zeros should also split the pot, but add $1500 to it so everyone also gets $1500.

Then there's some rather humorous cross-talk after the prizes are announced, while a producer (stage manager?) yells at him to reveal the correct "answer". Alex corrects the producer, saying he needs to reveal the correct question. I guess they hadn't settled in on "clue/response" yet...but then again, he mentioned "buzzers" yesterday, while he's always careful for some reason to call them "signaling devices" now...I guess because they don't buzz anymore.

EDIT: Actually, he does mention before revealing the FJ! category that ties are based on DJ! scores, and that second place is awarded to the player who was leading at the previous round. But no specific mention of what happens in the dreaded triple zero cases. In this over prepared information era, I can't imagine that happening unless all 3 players were tied at the end of DJ! to begin with...or perhaps in a tourney.

Regarding how consolation prizes are handled when there is no winner, I recall in this game (the last triple-zero game) that both Mike and Claudia were shown to win $2,000 while Randi won $1,000.

When I watched this game, I thought the trick was to figure which day of the week.

Would have been a tough way to lose.

I assume the Final Wager has had a retroactive aneurysm at that wager from Greg.

There was also a pause (and maybe an edit?) after the "cell" clue in DJ. It sounded like someone was laughing a bit. Any idea what happened there?

I'm fairly certain that I did not see this when they originally aired. I would have been up in Great Lakes at the Navy base and several of my classes were at night.

I was a senior in high school when this aired. I don’t recall seeing it, but my mother was a big fan of the original show so it was probably on at home.

This is probably something I would have known then.

I also noticed the laughter after the cell clue.

Alex commenting on the male nurse and female carpenter. That would cause a Twitter firestorm today.

I would have to say that the clues have gotten more sophisticated over the years. I do not believe that today they would go for Oregon Trail with a clue that had Oregon in it twice. I also don't believe they would say deoxyribonucleic acid when going for DNA.
