Surprised there were no negs on FJ. I didn't get it.
Spoiler
My first guess was Corsica since it's French but well situated for the war. (But I guess being French put it under German control?) Sardinia would have been my second guess. Pianosa would have been my third since that was the setting for Catch-22. I do recall that Heller introduced the book by noting that the island was actually too small for the activity he was describing. But that's because the book depicted Pianosa as a base of operations with at least one squadron and barracks and offices and everything. As an "aircraft carrier" with a small crew and a refueling & repair station, it probably would have sufficed. I think I unconsciously ruled Malta out because I think of Malta as a Mediterranean COUNTRY that, yes, happens to be an island if you ask. I would've gotten to it ahead of Cyprus (which I see as better situated for World War I than World War II?)
Spoiler
Malta wasn't a country at the time. Bigger clue is the island was awarded a George Cross which has been on its flag since '43
DH!! Did you get that final?
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

That FJ was invalid four months later and has happened three more times since.

I have no recollection what was going on on 2/11/91 to cause a late start for the game. Some is better than nothing and if the full game ever turns up then it won't take long to fill in the missing pieces. I don't know where DD1 played, but it was in the first 13 clues so I picked a spot and gave it to Francesca for +500.

For what really happened to have 2500 combined in 3600 worth of clues, including a DD, I would guess there were some negs while I decided to account for it with several TS clues.

What's the deal with Alex's exchange with Robert in FJ? It seems like Alex is reacting to something Robert wrote in addition to his response that hasn't been transcribed.

It was unusual with remarks in the FJ! round going back to DD3. There was a lot more said than I wanted to transcribe and I get why it's all confusing, especially if only reading the FJ! round.

If anyone wants to give me fixes to copy/paste then post. Enjoy the clips pieced together: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UFYBwa ... sp=sharing

I'm still not sure if I'm right about Robert saying Goldman while it sure sounds like Alex made it Golden.

Sorry for not understanding; I've been reading the Seniors games in full, but just skipping to FJ for TTs. One thing: you've got Alex saying "[**] would have been right had you said it first," but Alan Cranston is marked as the ** response.

Also, I'm with you being unsure Robert says Goldman. It does sound like there's another consonant after the D, but Robert doesn't appear to close his lips where the M would be. It's ambiguous enough that I won't recommend changing it at the moment.

It's a shame Christy did not make the semis because if that's the day one (reminded of something a grade-schooler would have worn on picture day) outfit then I can't imagine day two's choice. Christy did catch a break with her wager as even an all-in was not enough for WC4.

Kareem has a unique enough name making him easy to find in 2020: http://www.kareemcrayton.com/

JG denoted by one star, thanks.

For QF2 I would love to know what that song cost J! in 1991 and how much more (I would imagine mid-five figures minimum) it would be in 2020.

ERRATUM: close the parentheses in the response to J27 ANAGRAMS $200.

Got the two BIBLE category clues that were available in the $400 and $500 slots. Both good, Opus-approved clues. Probably too difficult for the modern crowd? I'd be interested to see the poll results if they showed up today. I'll take the under on 30% for the $400 clue and 15% for the $500. Take a shot at them and let me know what you think, boardies.

Luke said it was his voice crying in the wilderness that Esaias the prophet talked about
Spoiler
John the Baptist. I'm nervous about my prediction on this one. Maybe I'm lowballing it with my under 30% guess? It would also be interesting to see whether this box polls better than the "I incorrectly guessed Jesus" one.
He replaced Judas as 1 of the 12 Apostles
Spoiler
Matthias. (Request extra poll box for "I wasn't aware the Bible even recorded such an event.")
The category reminded me of a complaint I forgot to make about one of the Bible clues in the McKean-Marin-Curtin celebrity game re-broadcast last week. So I went and made that post and came back here. Reminder to self: Never Clavin on a Bible clue. There's too much risk that THEY will get it wrong.

For DD3 I got one of the Keating 5 but couldn't dredge up a second. Back in the day, I think I'd have done ok on this one.
Spoiler
John McCain was the one I still remembered. In '91, I'm pretty sure Alan Cranston would have still been in my RAM, and quite possibly John Glenn as well. No idea if Dennis DeConcini or Donald Riegle would have rung any bells then. They sure don't now.
Under today's rules, wouldn't Robert have been credited with a correct response since he corrected himself before Alex ruled? Robert won anyway, which was good, but the mistake cost him almost $4000. Unless there was a set amount for the quarterfinal winners. I never remember how these things work.

Ran the OPERA category. If there's one opera for prospective contestants to know some basic facts about, it's
Spoiler
Madame (or Madama) Butterfly. That one comes up a lot.
FJ was pure WECIB? I did my due diligence in trying to come up with a plausible alternative, but either the correct response was it or I had nothing.

The transcribed remarks about John Golden made no sense to me even though I'd just seen that clue a minute prior. People just checking out the FJ will presumably be mystified as well. The video, once I remembered its existence, was very helpful and enjoyable, especially Robert's "No, I want to kill him now!" Thanks, Mark! (I clearly hear "John Golden" both from Robert and from Alex, so I'd vote for changing Robert's response in DD3 and removing the "[sic]" from Alex's remarks in FJ.)

I used to be frustrated by long transcriptions of remarks in the FJ space. But that was because they sometimes caused the correct response to scroll below the bottom of my screen. And when I tried to scroll down, the response would disappear since it was only showing up while I hovered the mouse over the FJ category. But then I discovered I could just click on the category and the responses would stay in place even when I moved the cursor away. (Another way would be to click on the "game responses" link.) So now I'm happy with a full transcript of whatever got said during the FJ reveal.

ANAGRAMS clue fixed from QF1 and I've taken some of the suggestions for helping to clarify Alex's FJ! remarks in how they related to what happened on DD3. I've left the John [sic] in as to me it sounded like Alex was calling Robert, John, by mistake.

Well done! I think it's possible to follow the conversation now, even for those who are only checking FJ. And I agree that Alex misspoke and was calling Robert John.

1W combined prior to the FJ! round and a perfect J! round after things were cleaned up on clue 30.

Seems like a pretty standard FJ! clue that should have gone better than 1/3.

No errata.

Sad that the nation's largest toy store chain headquartered in Paramus, N.J. has ceased to exist.

Interesting that DD1 showed up in the spelling category. I don't think we'd expect it there today.

Surprised by the get on DD3 PEOPLE: Prime Minister Olof Palme was assassinated on a street in this city in 1986
Spoiler
Stockholm. I don't think I would have gotten that in 1991. It got brought up a few times in the Millennium trilogy (Dragon Tattoo etc). So I knew it this time.
I didn't get FJ and only recognize the name in a vague general way. Definitely not a forehead slap. So 1/3 seems about right to me. Probably depends on whether you took World History in high school and how far behind the class was by the end of the year.

Only 2 TS and one clue tossed out for not bad in getting the fairly rare combined Coryat over 25K in old values.

That was kind of Alex to attempt to take the embarrassing sting out of Agatha's FJ! clue miss by bringing it back on himself. Agatha still won so no biggie on the miss although in some cases it's perhaps better just to take the blank screen. At least for Agatha it was far ahead of social media times.

Deborah clearly gets sibling bragging rights over Lauren other than Lauren getting on the show first.

That tossed clue had to go as it wiped out reds across the archivist input screen for the three players.
