That was just one clue after Gail had negged herself into giving John the lock.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 11:58 am I added 12/13/90: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6811
John did not try to set up the tie even though he was retiring. Bad karma? He was immediately bounced from both the ToC and the UToC. John also negged himself out of a lock on clue 29.
It would have cost John $1600 to offer the tie, so I don't fault him. I only raise an eyebrow when the 5-time champ wagers to win by a buck. Really? That dollar was worth that much to you? But you know, there's a lot to think about and I'm sure not everyone notices the possibility. If I'd been a 5-time champ in that era, I hope I would have thought to offer the tie rather than make the shutout. I also hope I'd have thought to turn to my co-champ as we walked offstage and say, "You owe me a buck." Rolls reversed, I'd definitely pay up. It's too good a story not to take it to that conclusion.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
Is your point that one could give last name only for any or all of them, first name only for any or all of them (since they're characters and that's usually acceptable), or both names for any or all of them, thereby making 27 different ways to respond in a particular order, thereby making 162 ways to respond in no particular order (and that's just if you are strictly naming the characters)?Robert K S wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 10:20 amBut each has two names, a first name and a last name.seaborgium wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 6:29 am3! = 6. How do you get 27? Wouldn’t it be 18 if each character could be called three ways? (Jane, Jane Doe, and Doe).

It would be more if you went with the actresses’ names because you have to consider the following possibilities:
Farrah Fawcett
Farrah Fawcett Majors
Fawcett
Majors
Farrah Majors
Fawcett Majors
I don’t think she used a hyphen when she was married to Lee Majors so the last three are all legitimate responses.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
Since there are three different acceptable ways to refer to three different characters who must all be named, it's like a three-digit ternary (i.e. base 3) number. There are 27 values from 000 to 222, hence 27 ways to refer to Jill, Sabrina, and Kelly in that order.

What may have happened is I did not recall the trips were shown between the first two segments and overlooked filling in the prize spots.Ivoryface86 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 7:34 pm Oh, we all can hope Imad Khuri can discover any full J! episodes in his collection from the GSN reruns we haven't archived yet or in the case for Season 18 from the original broadcast(before they went to having the 3rd place finisher getting $1000 and the 2nd place getting $2000).
That could be something I work on in pieces here and there in the fall.

For the episodes you don't have trips of, how about looking at the credits to find out what the trips were for the December 17, 31, 2001, January 1-3, 7; 18 and 29, 2002, maybe Imad Khuri, blanquepage or maybe Chuck Donegan, catnap1972 or even Michael Pannoni(when he gets a chance to get those episodes) might have those episodes in original broadcast versions of the episodes.

There's different ways to look at this, none are wrong.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 9:08 am It would have cost John $1600 to offer the tie, so I don't fault him. Personally, there's a big difference between winning 5 games vs. winning 4 games and tying 1.
Also, if one magnanimously offers the tie in game 5, that gesture means one less contestant slot for the season. So the favor you do for one player, shuts out one player from even having a chance.

Updating the prizes list, and it looks like sometime in 2020, http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=320 transformed from a skeleton for 1992 College Championship final game 1 into 1994 Teen Tournament semifinal game 3?
