How in the world was this a triple stumper?
Maybe they overthought it?
Kevin seems really good, though. Three for three on locking it up before final.

Re: Monday, October 12, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
FURNITURE $400: Get it right: a podium is something you stand on; I sit at this, a 7-letter word for a reading desk
Michael bet his "lucky number" 854 on DD1 and went deeper in the hole. His 1711 wager in the FJ! round was for his kids' birthdays. DD3 did not go well for Michael either as he lost 5000.
If Michael had been correct on DD3 then that is 14746 for the FJ! round. Doubled is 29492. If Kevin had to cover that plus a buck he would have been left with 15707 on the miss, so still a win.
When watching the game Michael will probably realize those DD misses were not on real difficult clues. Funny what the stage can do sometimes and I suspect the way Michael played that today's outcome was not what he expected at all.
The archive indicates that Alex is right for WORLD LICENSE PLATES making its debut as a FJ! category. I don't see it as a J! or DJ! round category either.
I made no precalls off the category, but did expect something across the Atlantic. The FJ! clue had me instantly know the correct response without doubt and I only wrote the one needed word while bypassing unnecessary specificity.
It was not until going to the contestant responses and then reading the predictions at Fikkle that I began to realize that the clue was not as easy as I first thought. Perhaps there is an advantage for native Californians on it?

Very strong negbait for cockroach, for one. Unless you happen to know that Michoacan is the real TOM, and the monarch reserve is there, not sure how you tease it out.

It's done: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6842
Not nearly enough trash available for a fourth podium victory.
The main networks did not seem to be covering the hearing today and let it go the cable networks.
Same tomorrow with direct questioning? Time will tell.
Bills/Titans still on the schedule for regular CBS tomorrow.
Dodgers/Braves on regular Fox tonight.

Lucky for you then, considering there's this rather well-known Mexican folk song called "La Cucaracha" (whose title translates to "The Cockroach")...Philliesfan02 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 2:48 pm I just saw Mexico + insect and locked in on Monarch Butterfly.

While I know about butterflies wintering in Mexico, the state name meant nothing to me and the mention of 2010 seemed to be pointing to a specific event that caused the insects to be put on license plates. I drew a complete blank.

In the anagrams category, instead of ear & era I had nose & eons.
on daily doubles. Dyson sphere is way overvalued at 2K.
Had locusts for FJ. That ends my streak.

Missed only $1,000 in both Behind the Voices and Furniture. Another second or two and I could have gotten "armoire", but no way was Natalie Wood happening.
Was there an edit after the Universe DD? I heard a dip in sound there.
No guess on FJ! Even his hint got me no closer.
Lach Trash: rocking chair. Also got the Bastille day DD.

+1 for nose/eons. NHO a Dyson sphere, and I'm a science guy.
Coryat $35,400 (45R, 3W)
DD 2/3
FJ
Being too slow on wordplay clues killed me on DD2. Got licked in on "read" and went nowhere with that. Gotta build that skill. Went with cockroach for FJ and didn't even bother to think any further.
Festival of lights $2000 was gonna be Diwali, I'm sure of it.

Re: Monday, October 12, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I'd NHO Michoacan or that monarch butterflies flew to Mexico and have a reserve there. For some reason, I got sidetracked by scarabs, but that's an Egyptian Pavlov...so, of course, I put down beetle anyway.
I would have said "What is Bleu, blanc et rogue?" for the French flag...but I'd say it making a face. And not because of any hard feelings towards France, but for my disdain of a certain team that's co-opted those colors. (Sorry, OQ...)
How very meta for J! to distinguish between podiums and lecterns.
I think I probably would have clipped "Forever in blue" appropriately, and not continued the phrase to more accurately describe the said "pants", but gives off some Neil Diamond vibes. I'd NHO that fourth book, but figured it was a sequel to the one everyone knows.
DD2 was easy enough that I probably would have been able to get it on a buzz-in, which I don't like - DDs should require some thought that at least not make them buzzer-beaters. Oh, well.
I got Bastille Day because, when I was younger, my parents always (unhelpfully) reminded me that their anniversary is on Bastille Day. I'll be honest; I probably know less about Bastille Day than I really should - something to study, since J! likes French history.
