Bump for the 12/30/20 rerun.
It's fun to revisit all the old posts. I don't miss the days of having to wait until 7:00 p.m. to see the games.

Daily Doubles: (got one)

FJ: instaget.
looks like I just responded to the weekly poll & didn't see the original.

Did I not have an account here back then? I remember that someone sniped my name to try and keep me from posting here, not figuring that I'd just use another name. And then that person ceded the TPH name to me.

Well whaddya know? I ran the category again this time around. <stretch> <grunt>opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2011 1:49 amHe didn't quite run it. "O Danny Boy George Steinbrenner" was a triple stumper.boson wrote:Tom had more moments than the others, and more near the bottom of the board. Running "Before, During and After" put it away for him.
If I may brag a teeny bit, I did run that category. Had each of my responses ready before Alex was done reading the clue. Oh yeah. (How come we don't have a "stretching with a grunt of confidence" smilie?)

Recognized the Final the second I saw it. When it first aired, after dismissing Joan of Arc as making no sense, I realized who it was, who she'd killed, the fact that she killed him in his bathtub, the painting by David... everything about it except the names of the two people. I forget what I ended up guessing. Probably "Who is someone who's never been in my bathroom?"
Both names have stuck with me. So I got it right away this time around.

Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

No and we never will so it's probably best if we just drop the subject. <whistles innocently>TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 6:40 pm Did I not have an account here back then? Re: Bond girl names, I've long thought that "Truly Scrumptious" from Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang sounded like a rejected Bond girl name, so imagine my lack of surprise when it turned out that...
Erin's a tubist! I approve!
I came up with the first names, but I wonder if "the Bushes" would have been accepted?
I knew it was going to be about Carmen before Alex said a word
Do responses have to be in English? Y'all are going to think I'm even more insufferably pretentious than you probably think I do already, but as someone who speaks Russian and has spent a considerable amount of time in Moscow my instinctual response was "krasnaia ploshchad'"
I love these Before & After categories
Dave's Mom was 100% the best part of the Lillehammer games.
I had a professor in undergrad who had a print of David's painting of Marat in his tub hanging in his office. I asked him once if he thought it was a bit morbid; he had been a journalist before a second career as a historian of radical movements and he said that on the contrary he felt it was a reminder of the power of his calling.
Coryat: $44,800. One of my best ToC scores, but this was an exceptionally strong board for me, especially in DJ.
J: 24R5P1W. Got DD. 5/5 on Twins, Justice, Leaders, and Proverb. 1/5 on Bond (I got Honey Ryder, and I fell for the "From Russia With Love" negbait on Anya Amasova).
DJ: 27R3P. 2/2 on DDs. 5/5 on Mascots, Bugs, BDA, and Costumes. 4/5 on RWB.
FJ: Didn't know the quote right away, went to Joan of Arc initially, then realized that the quote implied something both more covert and more narrowly-focused in its target than leading an army out in the open. Who's a famous French patriotic murderer? Gotta be CC.
LT: Paderewski, Lohengrin, Danny Boy George Steinbrenner

I did, and not even close. Didn't forget anything and picked up 9 more even flipping my neg (East of Eden; can only imagine I said Absalom, Absalom? But maybe I was still so green I went with Grapes of Wrath)

I guess the writers felt the name of Honor Blackman’s character in Goldfinger was too much a double entendre for a family show.
For FJ, knew this was a French Revolution thing but couldn’t pull the two names (not that the victim’s name was needed but it might have made the answer easier for me to get).

I missed FJ then and missed it now. I knew what it was about but couldn’t pull the name or even come close.
I did name both of the Bush twins this time.

One of them was an Austin Rogers game...I must have missed it, because I don't recall his reaction at all but I have to imagine it's worth seeing.
