Re: Thursday, January 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Alex opened with Christmas Eve remarks and closed with saying "our Christmas Day show tomorrow".
I enjoyed the local flavor of Yoshie getting to talk about Colma. If I had a nickel for every time I've ridden in a car with my dad or grandfather at the helm and asking, "How many do you think are dead there?" when passing the slew of visible tombstones...
It was always good for a family chuckle, "All of them!"
Alex: You picked the right one.
Yeah, I hope the contestant had the right Underground Railroad woman for the stamp clue.
Yay, another football stumper clue. Hope the SNF guys are watching. If I was Al I would tease his partner on air for the next televised game.
Today was a day when I did not bother with the precall game off the FJ! clue. I had zero expectation of it being anything unfamiliar to me and it would only be a matter of connecting the dots.
I was writing at "4 songs from this 1968" and did not need the rest of the clue. To me "astrological" was a big giveaway though unfortunately for Tracy still not enough to help.
Yoshie gets the distinction of being the last returning champion of the Trebek era. Natalie was a miss on DD3 away from it.

Archive playthrough:
Coryat $37,000 (48R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ
Any time Hair comes up, I never seem to be able to get it. I'm going to read the whole Wikipedia article about it and never have this problem again. I have the same issue with George R.R. Martin - if it doesn't directly say "Game of Thrones" or "A Song of Ice and Fire", I am useless.
Only one more Alex episode left. Man.

I've got you covered on four of your stumpers for a near team perfecto, but need Golf for the 5th. I was thinking tennis for U.S. Open until the end of the clue and was not ready to switch gears to properly figure out golfers. Even if I had been on the sport instantly I may have messed up the name as I have a friend who likes to call him Rochambeau.LucarioSnooperVixey wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 5:08 pm 55 R (Missed the Bottom Two in Jocks, the Bottom Two in Black Heritage Stamps, and Television $1600.)

Instaget FJ.
I don’t think polar circle should have been accepted. They were going for Arctic Circle and her response doesn’t distinguish it from the Antarctic Circle. A BMS was called for here.

Done. Nice to only have to answer 1 clue per game!MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 5:18 pm I've got you covered on four of your stumpers for a near team perfecto, but need Golf for the 5th. My girlfriend calls him DeBeauChamp.

Agree completely ... also, Go Gators!
I own the soundtrack, so FJ was an instaget.
Re: Thursday, January 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Alex calling a Sean Connery movie a "great film" makes me laugh
The incredible Oedipal egg...
Dad always said Cris Collinsworth ran like a gazelle on his routes
"Pale" of course, referred to another, similarly sinister, demarcation for settlement exclusions in the Russian Empire
GWEN I MISS YOU!
Coryat: $41,600
J: 26R2P2W. Got DD. 5/5 in Body Language, Kings, Queens, and Jocks. 3/5 in Hobbies and Transportation (I said "glider" for "balloon").
DJ: 27R2P1W. 2/2 on DDs. 5/5 in Science & Math, Mythology, and Above & Beyond. 4/5 in Stamps, Television, and Good After Noun
FJ: Instaget.
LT: DeChambeau, walking, Cris Collinsworth, Gwen Ifil

While Sojourner Truth was not involved on the Underground Railroad, she would not have been an unreasonable guess.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:47 pm Yeah, I hope the contestant had the right Underground Railroad woman for the stamp clue.

Re: Thursday, January 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The soundtrack of the movie, or the cast album of the musical?
For the record, the four songs are Aquarius, Let The Sunshine In, Easy to Be Hard, and Good Morning Starshine. Sing along with the Fifth Dimension!
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

NHO Robert Baratheon. That seemed like an opaque TOM in the top box.
What was the TOM for Portugal in Queens for $200?
0/5 in Jocks.
Ran Mythology and Science & Math.
Any reason I should know where Vaalsenberg is? That sounds like it could be anywhere.
Musical + 1968 + astrological = ??? I know "Age of Aquarius" and I know Hair. I couldn't tell you anything at all about Hair.

runs: Queens, Mythology, sci/math groups,
Daily Doubles:
trash: Vietnam DD, Redux. Rather clean boards, and they certainly seem easier.
FJ: Hair (coulda made it a little challenging by asking for Age of Aquarius)

Robert Baratheon was YEKIOYD, but most people have seen or read Game of ThronesTenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 8:01 pm NHO Robert Baratheon. That seemed like an opaque TOM in the top box.

Brazil speaks Portugese for a reason. Plus if you've played Civ V...
hard to get above sea-level, Dutch-sounding name, WECIB.
