Re: Wednesday, February 10, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
John once again lost overall money due to an opponent's DD play. Monday it was not betting the farm that kept the game from being closer and today it was missing out on a 5K wager that would have forced John to cover 31600.
John is 2/3 on FJ, 6/6 on DD, and L+1+L for position with a pretty good 20,733 Coryat avg.
Thanks again to CBS Delta for breaking away from news coverage to switch to J! right on time. That station also kindly waited for the Showcase winner before breaking in as well.
The FJ! category gave me no inspiration and the clue had me shy of getting there.
First I wrote Fokker to have a plane. Nope, get rid of that. I switched to Messerschmidt (close enough to Messerschmitt?). I did not like that any better and ended up with Zeppelin. One more step to go and I would have had it. My bad.

It is done: https://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6935
The station had a constant weather alert on the screen that impacted the OCR. Watch for unwanted spaces or even missing words.

Final was just an instaget for me. I was probably a little hasty in not mulling it over further but I'm glad I didn't.

NHO The Woah.
The Olay person today was really annoying IMO.
Hindenburg actually Crossed my mind, but i thought it was too well known for a final. Oops.

Spoiler related to yesterday’s FJ.
John has certainly been dominant this week.
Instaget FJ. I don’t have my German presidents memorized but he is one I know and he had an aircraft named for him. Surprised it went 1/3 on the show.
Spoiler
I guess once living in Maryland gave him a leg up on FJ yesterday

Aircraft and Weimar immediately sent me to WW2 German airplanes, and I never considered that an aircraft might not be a plane.
Never heard of Whoa either.

Re: Wednesday, February 10, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
If Cortez has come up before, I have not retained it whatsoever. "Blah blah Spain blah blah explorer blah blah sometime around 1500" just seemed like such a perfect match for Columbus that I'm tempted to scream negbait again.
"The Revenant" rings no bells for me. That could be literally any animal.
It was nice of them to throw me a bone with the Wheel of Fortune clue to keep me from skunking the Croatia category.
Strangely, I got only $1,000 in Makes Us Stronger. J! round was overall rough, with 10R 1W, and 4 of those 10 being in Legal Edition.
Did a little better in DJ!, thanks in part to running 4-Letter "F" Words and getting all but $2,000 in Government.
However, I was still 0/5 in Public Sculpture and 3-Named Authors.
No guess on FJ! I didn't realize that "aircraft" could describe anything other than planes.
Lach Trash: quiet

"Hindenburg" means the town of Hinden; "Hindenberg" means Hinden Mountain and is pronounced differently. So if they're not giving credit for Barry Gordy....
(For the record, I would have counted Hindenberg and Barry... just being a bit TIC)

Damn and blast, I said Graf Zeppelin.
Other than that, a pretty smooth game. I predicted I would run 3-NAMED AUTHORS as soon as it was revealed, and I did not disappoint.
Also easily pre-called Dalmatia for CROATIA.

I said Zeppelin, too. Hadn’t realized that they were looking for the name of a particular aircraft.

Ditto. Just plainly asking for an aircraft made me think they just wanted the mode of transport, instead of a specific craft. "Second president" is a TOM in hindsight, but I don't know much beyond the names to make a distinction.
I keep getting my butt kicked on the STEM categories this week. Sciences are a weakness of mine, so I'm not too surprised, but the fact that they don't show on-screen text for video clues anymore doesn't help either. Why did they take that out?

$10,400 in lach trash. Even if you got it all AND John missed FJ instead of getting it, he still had you locked out. Impressive.
Who's to blame for changing the meaning of "font" so that it also refers to a typeface? Microsoft? Steve Jobs? Comic Sans is properly a typeface which can be set in different fonts such as bold or italic. If we call it a font, that leaves us with one word that means two different things and no words that mean exclusively what typeface means. This is what irks us usage pedants. It's not that we're scolds or snobs, although we can be both. It's not that we're opposed to the language changing and evolving. It's when the evolution leaves the language poorer than it used to be. Ahem. How did this soapbox get here?
Ran triple-named authors. Unsuccessfully pre-called Edgar Allan Poe and William Makepeace Thackeray. How'd everybody do on Ralph Waldo Emerson? Anyone fall for the negbait-ish Henry David Thoreau?
Like others I started my search for the correct FJ response by thinking we were going for a make or model rather than a uniquely identifiable aircraft. Like Mark, I started with Fokker but didn't like it much. Tried to think of what kind of plane the Red Baron flew, but that weighed me down like an albatross and I got nowhere. Thought of the Bismarck, which was in the right direction in being a unique vessel, but in the wrong direction vertically. Then finally thought of Zeppelin and, unlike others, made the final leap to Hindenburg since I figured he was more likely to have been Weimar president than Count von Zeppelin.

Re: Wednesday, February 10, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
We had a similar discussion last time there was a "3-named" category...Is Clark enough for Mary Higgins Clark? What complicates this is that her daughter Carol H.C. is also an author...I accepted it since I at least had more than Jared, but i couldn't remember her first name...Perhaps more objectively, I didn't accept steamship for steamboat...
Hindenburg wasn't just the 2d president, he was the guy who appointed Hitler Chancellor of Germany...a bigger disaster than his namesake, and hard to forget (or forgive)...
