I really enjoyed watching him play. He seemed like he had a bright future. This is really sad.
I had a dream that I was asleep and then I woke up and Jeopardy! was on.

I am so sad to hear that. This is going to be the third Tournament of Champions in a row where someone who would have qualified passed away before they got the chance to compete in the Tournament of Champions (Cindy Stowell would have qualified for the 2017 tournament and Larry Martin would have qualified for the 2019 tournament. Larry and Brayden were also JBoard members).
RIP Brayden Smith

That's pretty much the reason why I made sure I didn't win enough games to qualify. Or, uh, any.gameshowfandanny wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 11:51 am I am so sad to hear that. May his memory be a blessing to his friends and family.

Just stunning and sad news. It's hard to imagine how heartbreaking it must be for Brayden's family.

It seems disrespectful to speculate publicly. We have no idea and the obit doesn't say anything.

Not even six weeks after his last game aired. This is just so shocking and sad. Condolences to all his family and friends.

He was just 24. My son is 23. I can’t even begin to imagine what his parents are dealing with and I hope I never learn. Parents should not bury their children.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:58 pm Just stunning and sad news. It's hard to imagine how heartbreaking it must be for Brayden's family.
I only saw one of the speculative posts and I want to thank the mods for closing down the discussion. His cause of death was not made public and it is nobody’s business outside of his family.

Was he the last five time champ under Alex?

Re: OBIT: Brayden Smith
Utterly shocking. I have a mind like a sieve when it comes to contestants - even multi-day champs - but Brayden stood out to me for some reason. He just seemed very likable - I was rooting for him the whole time, and was hoping that he'd make it to (and past) Alex's last episode. I'm also biased because he took the time to hang out with us riffraff after his win and post a couple of times.
Far too soon for Brayden. He was a pleasure to watch as he played our favorite game.
