I have always liked quiz shows. I have been a (losing) contestant on "Jeopardy" twice.
I wonder what that means. Did they bring her back? But how then would she have gotten money for second, unless it was a 2002 or later game?I have come in second on "Jeopardy" twice... the first time I only won Ricearoni and the like, but the second time I won money

You'll remember that game as the one where Charlotte Starbird got negged in Final on phrasing alone.
That is intriguing.MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:52 pm Did they bring her back? But how then would she have gotten money for second, unless it was a 2002 or later game?

With Dane’s game appearing we have solved the mystery of how many games he won before facing Chuck. I wonder if he knew Chuck was trouble and offered the ties to delay him as much as possible. (Although he didn’t offer one here).

We also have it almost completely confirmed that Dane Garrett was indeed the first player to be involved in two tie games, since Alex said it was the second day in a row with co-champions, and therefore one of the two was necessarily part of the previous tie. [edit: and I guess the fact that Dane was introduced with a two-day total more than "almost completely" confirms it.] (Of course, we could have just taken Alex at his word in Chuck's first game...)

I agree with Opus in reading "Allen" from his cursive. But while Johnny's intro for Diane sounded like her last name could have been Hope or Pope, I heard the velar plosive of a K or C at the beginning of Diane's last name when Alex spoke to her.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 7:20 pm 9/27/85

I thought Diane's "originally from" could have been Palatine. Complicating the matter is that Illinois has villages named Palestine and Palatine.
Possible spelling for Allen's last name: Ury. I found an author named Allen B. Ury but couldn't find anything about him to connect him to or rule him out as the contestant.
Edit: During his interview, Allen mentioned being on a trivia team called The Howdy Doody Revival Society while in college at the University of Wisconsin. I couldn't find anything about HDRS, but when I went the more logical route of googling him and "University of Wisconsin," I found his Facebook. So Allen Ury it is.

Yes, I can hear that, and with that in mind, I can hear Johnny that way too. So Diane Cope or Kope or even Koop if she's Dutch. I was just watching the newly uploaded Jay Rosenberg game, and during the interviews I got a sudden twinge of familiarity about Janet Batchler's name. I took to Facebook and confirmed my suspicions: I took care of her daughter at my summer day camp in 2001 (my first year working there).

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
And the last game from the first of India Cooper's tapes, January 17, 1992, Kyle Osburn vs. Nancy Greene vs. Walter Mayes
https://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6929
The CARTOON CATCH PHRASES category could have been called "Alex Does Voices". We've heard his Bela Lugosi and Humphrey Bogart dozens of times, but who knew he did a mean Huckleberry Hound?
Clue of the game will be AMPHIBIANS for $500, a clue that Nancy got right but I didn't:
Nancy then jumped back to NEW TESTAMENT, and hit the Daily Double that Walter jumped away from. Her $600 bet gave her a $100 lead over Walter to end the round.
Fast Forward to the end of DJ! Nancy again hits the Daily Double on (what turns out to be) the last clue of the round. Walter's lead is much greater than before, $10,600 to her $4,500. But she bets just $700 to jump past Kyle's $5,100 into 2nd place, basically handing the game over to Walter. After she gets the clue correct (I missed this one, too), Alex gently chastises her for betting so low, allowing that she may not have felt comfortable in the category. But no matter how she may have felt, the winning play is to bet at least $800, and that number is barely more than her actual bet.
What's worse for her and better for Walter, is that the 2 ladies got FJ! correct and he missed it. She could have been champ, and $10,000+ dollars richer. Instead, she took home what I assume was a very nice for 1992 word processor. The Betting Police: Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?
(I also missed FJ!, making the perfectly reasonable (and arguably correct) guess of "deliberate".
1 tape down, 1 to go. Or maybe I go back to David Frazee's tapes. Hmmmm.

I matched you on FJ.
Yeah, a pretty bad DD bet there. I get doing math on the fly and under the lights can be daunting, but still. I’m betting $800 there and a long time to give my question so the round ends here. Granted, I got it wrong, but people wouldn’t be ridiculing me 29 years later.
A slight typo in J18.

I also wanted to mention that Nancy's interview story was about going out to her local bar on Tuesday's for Trivia Night with her trivia team. A novelty in 1992, absolutely common 30 years later.

Cambrian was my first thought, but I knew from previous trivia experience that it was named for Wales (and of course that Wales isn't a county); I had to ponder a moment but pulled the correct response, perhaps too slow for an actual J! game but nevertheless satisfying.Volante wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 6:36 pmHuh. Re: New old games in the J! Archive
I entered the occupations and hometowns and the J! Round, and proofed the other two rounds, for this formerly incomplete game:
https://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6572
Vaughn, the challenger in the middle who almost upset the champ, who was introduced as "a merchandising specialist", disclosed in his interview that his full-time job was playing Garfield the Cat for all personal appearances made by the cartoon character. I couldn't tell whether he said the name with two syllables or three, but then again, it always sounded like three syllables to me. Vaughn died in 2012, it appears.
Alex mentioned during Mary's interview that her employer, a certain oft-quoted medical publication, had been the subject of a recent Final Jeopardy!... do we have that game entered? (I can't find that we do, and moreover, it isn't in the Resource.)

If the FJ! clue played in 2021 would the incorrect guess outnumber the correct response on a weekly poll?

Jay’s player page for his regular games doesn’t link to his TOC and UTOC games.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
Looks good to me.
(The player pages are sort of a "before, during, and after," with the "during" being the stint of games linking to the page you're on. So Jay had three stints, with his initial appearance page not showing UToC games, and vice versa. The way you can see all games from all stints on one page is to click the "player statistics" link at the bottom.)
