There's a quick BTS clip with Mayim up on social media today. Today's contestants are at their positions just pre-show. We see a quick view of the host's teleprompter as well as what may end up being one of the last shots of John Lauderdale (I think) on the job.

Mayim gave the players a "C'mon kids" when they could not i.d. the photo of one of the guys named Tony.

Shannon played DD3 at clue 29 with $2000 left on the board.

7600 to 13800 and a narrow lead with 14200. What to wager? Shannon went with 1000 and lost it to drop to 2nd. Shannon quickly made up for it by getting the last clue to retake the lead.

The FJ! category had my precalls all over the place from Lulu, Little Eva, and Lesley Gore to Elvis, Motown and Cher. When my thoughts went to Barry Sadler and "The Ballad of the Green Berets" followed by William Shatner I figured it was time to stop early thinking. The way I was going I'm surprised I did not think of Richard Harris and "MacArthur Park" until after the show.

The FJ! clue had me done before Mayim finished reading. Thanks to Casey Kasem who offered so many interesting tidbits over the years of his hosting AT40.

Mara's total could have been 15201 and instead she took it to the max to survive the FJ! round in 2nd along with missing DD2. It can't be fun to face those 2 (or 3)/50 states in DD time. I got it only because one was easy and the others were in the same neighborhood.

FJ was a gimme for me, a big fan of Otis Redding (I have most of his albums). Either overlooking the water or posthumous hit would have been enough. But if you needed the GA reference...

On the one hand, I wouldn't call Northern Ireland a "country". On the other, I'm glad "Ireland" was (I gather?) outright negged, as I can remember it being BMSed in the past.

In what way are orchids "exotic"? Wikipedia tells me they constitute 6-11% of all seed plants, and they can be found almost everywhere north of Antarctica.

Dictionary.com gives "mien or countenance" given as one meaning of "brow", but I can't see it.
I'm smart and I want respect.

What to wager? How about not $1000?

$1k does not guarantee a lead going into FJ on a get and it falls into 2nd on a miss. Bad and bad.

First option would of course be $1601 to lock a lead going into FJ on a get. On a miss the lead can still be attained getting DJ30.

Second option would be to wager no more than $399 to lock the lead going into DJ30.

A TDD still can't achieve a lock with one clue remaining which is frustrating.

Two very simple options in this endgame scenario which I certainly will never expect a contestant to be prepared for on stage. Of course there are other options that involve a possible crush, but only if it's a wheelhouse category. And if that's the case, I'd bet a TDD would show higher winning chances.

Posthumous #1 hit mentioning water made this a can't-miss for me.

"Posthumous hit" would have been enough given the category.

If it is 1970s is there a better choice than Jim Croce?

I don't think so; I doubt they'd go with Gram Parsons.

Disappointed I didn't run POETIC BOOK TITLES because I blew the $400 clue. I knew it wasn't For Whom the Bell Tolls, because John Donne coined that. But then I got stuck on which Hemingway title sounded the most poetic and went with The Sun Also Rises, ignoring the WWI part of the clue :?

At least I got my first FJ of the week.

England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are called "constituent countries" or "home nations" in the UK. (On the UK game show Pointless, when there is a round where contestants have to name a country or a national capital, they always make sure to point out that the show defines "country" in that context as "a member of the United Nations in its own right" to keep people from guessing one of the home nations.)
Not many people can say they've lost four times on Jeopardy!.

I'd be interested in a poll on which 2 of the 3 states everyone said for DD2. I feel like Texas is the most obvious, but when you start with Kansas (like I did), it's more natural to jump to Arkansas after that.

I also wonder if someone was way off like Mara and said Illinois, or even worse, Massachusetts.
