Good idea, although last name only would have worked too. (Gwendolyn)
edit: since my correction is on a new page, I predict someone else will offer one as well.

I regret using that phrase, too, thanks...seaborgium wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 1:46 amGood idea, although last name only would have worked too. (Gwendolyn)
His first solo album was 1970; last was 2018. I also think he fails the top 5 charting requirement of the clue. But I would say this is a good guess.
No, silly! Gwendolyn was her FIRST name.seaborgium wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 1:46 amGood idea, although last name only would have worked too. (Gwendolyn)
So I guess the year actually begins on December 25th?mikeday wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 12:11 pm The FJ clue is technically incorrect, although Billboard recognizes decades incorrectly (as do most people).
There was no year zero. When Christ was born, the first year was 1AD. Thus, a decade goes from xxx1-xxx0, not from xxx0-xxx9. Similarly, a century goes from xx01-xx00, not from xx00-xx99, as the contestants in game 2 of season 1 - the second game of the Trebek revival in 1984 - all discovered to their dismay, as they all bet everything in FJ for a three-player washout. The 1900s isn't a century; the century went from 1901-2000.
Thus, although cultural references generally posit that a decade goes from xxx0-xxx9 (the 80s, the 90s, and so on), that is wrong, and the album in 2020 did not give The Boss Top 5 albums in six consecutive decades.
Is there any context in which people refer to the years from, say, 2021 to 2030 as the 2030th decade? [ ...That should be 203rd decade, of course.] Seems to me "cultural references" are the only ones that matter here.mikeday wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 12:11 pm The FJ clue is technically incorrect, although Billboard recognizes decades incorrectly (as do most people).

I strongly believe that the 21st century is from January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2100, but I just as strongly believe that the 2020's run from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2029. I don't think that causes any contradiction.mikeday wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 12:11 pm The FJ clue is technically incorrect, although Billboard recognizes decades incorrectly (as do most people).

Any period of ten years can be called a decade, and when a clue says that an occurrence in a year ending with a zero has added to the number of consecutive decades it has occurred, it's a safe assumption that the clue's reckoning of decades lines up with when the year changes its tens digit.mikeday wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 12:11 pm The FJ clue is technically incorrect, although Billboard recognizes decades incorrectly (as do most people).

No, but only mostly because the years from 20291 to 20300 would be the 2030th decade!
Illinois does as well. Des Plaines (Des pronounced to rhyme with less and not like in Des Moines) and San Jose (pronounced San Josie (but without the Pussycats )).Linear Gnome wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 11:32 pm Missouri has many paradoxical pronunciations (such as Versailles, pronounced ver-SAILS, and Nevada, pronounced ne-VAY-da). There's a road near where I live called Gravois, pronounced GRA-voy. I always thought that either GRA-voys or gra-VWAH would make more sense.
Nah--gotta add "Go-EE-thee."
