The challengers played mostly well, but Carolyn & Greg could not put together a whole game. Matthew played no DDs, but only 6000+800 by Carolyn and net gain of $1000 for Greg on his hit & miss DDs was plenty of help on the way to leading for the FJ! round.

If a category wants a country then give the country.

What TPIR does Ken watch where he is referencing uniforms and signs? I got the impression Ken knows little beyond the basic, "Come on down". I'll give Greg a line on his J! bio page and I can fill in better details if the Golden Road people here know more.

WORD ORIGINS again? We just had that on January 30. Perhaps I need to hate the category a little less since I got both clues correct. Today, it seem fairly straightforward what the clue was hinting at with no detours.

Matthew bumps the 4x champ this season down one notch on the tracker. A win like today in tomorrow's game and Luigi drops a rung.

Can't believe the igloo or Oscar Wilde misses :o

Dreaded FJ category turned out to be straightforward.

It's a calculated gamble on my part that he will make the ToC and I don't end up having to remove the tags. If I waited until tomorrow, and Matthew won, some yahoo would want the tags and submit a correction suggestion before I even had a chance to get to it.

Jeopardy.com's ToC tracker says at the bottom that all 4xers qualify now.

Was anyone else a little thrown by Ken giving Matthew a hint on the final clue?

"Spain" was the most surprising TS I've seen in a while...

Also, did anyone else think that Ken seemed to mix up Let's Make a Deal and The Price Is Right during the contestant interviews?

Wilde's name was in the clue, though I suppose it wasn't specified that he was the author of the work in question. It seemed clear from Matthew's body language in his belated decision to buzz in that he felt almost obligated to do so because he already understood that the clue involved his favorite author. So in the moment it didn't seem odd at all. In retrospect I can agree that it wasn't strictly kosher.

Here's part of Greg's appearance on The Price is Right, all the way back in Drew's very first season as host:

Yes, it's a more familiar name to me than Eden Prairie...
I have a feeling Wilde is not really Matthew's favorite...though, yes, Ken may have forced him into responding. Maybe he'd already checked out of the round...
Final left me going more umm....umm... than om....om....

I didn't get on the right wavelength with the Sanskrit TOM but feel pretty good about my miss with "utterance", since Ken used it to explain the clue.

I had a dry sauna in my first real house and have been in a few. I can't imagine staying 3 minutes at 210F. I ran mine about 170 F and stayed about 15 minutes. A couple of times we had snow and I made snow angels, otherwise straight to the cold shower. The blood pressure spike (or whatever it was) was pretty extreme and I wasn't sure it was safe so I only did it a few times.

Matthew seems very vulnerable but has enough knowledge to require a challenger to beat him in all three phases and play a complete game. Was his pronunciation of Moog (as Moo instead of MOE) ever an alternate version? I heard the name before I ever saw the spelling, or I'd probably have loaded it with the cow utterance sound in my mental rolodex.

The games have been very watchable for a month. Added bonus that we've had some familiar talent on the show.

For the record--and I'm not saying either of you said this--but Gopher Prairie is not a real place. It's the town referenced in "Main Street" by Sinclair Lewis. I had to look it up because I'd never heard of Gopher Prairie.
