Fourth Podium Poll for Monday, June 5, 2023

Post by opusthepenguin »

Jared missed FJ, so maybe you've got a chance if you can pick up at least $9801 of the available $12800 in trash. You might artificially beef up your score with DD2. But then maybe Jared would leverage DD3 (which isn't available to the fourth podium) to roar ahead of you. You're free to claim a win as long as you show your work.

SCORES GOING INTO FJ

Jared Watson: 19600-1999=17601
Annabelle Winter: 2400+2395=4795
Harrison Seidel: 8800+3900=12700
CORRECT RESPONSES
JEOPARDY ROUND

SJ3 $1000 CHILDREN'S BOOKS: Stellaluna
SJ8 $1000 THE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM: the Edmonton Oilers
SJ12 $1000 "G"EOGRAPHY: Ginza
SJ18 $800 TASK: FORCE: force majeure
SJ21 $600 THE PHILIPPINES: Luzon
SJ28 $800 IT'S ALSO A BOAT: gondola

DOUBLE JEOPARDY ROUND

DJ1 $1200 CITY HAPPENINGS: Cannes
DJ8 $2000 FIRST & LAST NAME'S THE SAME: Francis Bacon
DJ9 DD2 MYTHOLOGY: Maui
DJ10 $1600 MOVIE CONTINENTS: Muriel's Wedding
DJ23 $800 THE SCIENCE OF POETRY: black holes
DJ26 $2000 THE SCIENCE OF POETRY: Dewar

FINAL JEOPARDY

ACRONYMS: POTUS

I got the Oilers (I was clamming on them until Jared's mistake, but I suspect with a longer look at the picture, which I'd have had on stage, I would have had it either way), Ginza, Luzon, gondola, Cannes, Bacon, and Maui. I clammed on black holes and came up with Dewar just a little too late to count a get. I got POTUS. The question for me is whether I hit the Maui DD after getting Bacon. If I do, I believe I win.

:(

$10,600 but no FJ leaves me way short of a Fourth Podium victory.

The follow-up question, which isn't answerable, is what does Jared do when he hits DD3? You took away the $3000 he would've made on DD2, but he's still got $16,200 to wager. Can he put together a runaway? Will he? My guesses are yes and no, so you come roaring back for FJ and make him regret it.
