I'm sure that made Allison's performance on the BIBLE category all the more frustrating for him.wbheath wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 5:55 pmManger on Kevin's occupation should be "manager"OntarioQuizzer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 5:32 pm Courtesy games shared with Archivists, 1996-03-01: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8057

Highest scores by different winners in consecutive games (I believe these are the top three pairs, though I haven't exhaustively researched it):MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 4:58 pm Courtesy games shared with Archivists, 1994-09-08, the game after Steve Chernicoff was retired: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8055

Mollie Ward, Melanie Posey, and Allison Ward.
Mollie's betting was terrible, even by 1996 standards.

John Anderson, Sue Yabroff, and Steven Rogitz.
Sue's STAYing CLAM got her around to Final. Steve offered the tie from the lock and did not get Final correct. We know from history what his winning total was. Unfortunately, Sue held back $50.
Strategy-wise, I like Steve's choice: The "in first on buzzer" stats between Steve and Sue were 36 to 1 in Steve's favor over 47 clues.

Vickie Stucken, Gary Capra, and Steve Rogitz.
I'm not 100% on Gary's last name. Sportscaster originally from Boston who moved to L.A. in an attempt to further his career.
"Audience shouts out after a player rings in, player can't respond, player loses money" comes up for the second time in my recent time adding clues.
Final Jeopardy! betting was different back then for sure.
If Alex has trouble explaining Final Jeopardy, maybe it wasn't such a good clue idea?

Carolyn Christian, David Radulski, and Tom Wheeler.
Carolyn gets a rare "stationed at" listing in J! Archive, for what it's worth.
If only Tom had read DJ29 properly.

Gary Ansok, Carl Schulze, Carolyn Christian.
0 W, 2 TS. Needless to say, we had a *big* payday in this one.

He also offered a tie in his second game, another two-player lock situation. But he got it right and his opponent didn’t bet it all anyway. Granted, it was S1, but I don’t know why you wouldn’t go all in from second with no third player to worry about.OntarioQuizzer wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 9:53 am Courtesy the National Archives of Game Show History, Steven Rogitz game 4, 1985-03-27: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8060

In FJ, I think Vickie made the right decision in betting it all. I see the logic in Steve’s bet although I’d have bet $1,600. Gary probably wishes he’d clammed his bet.
The switch from DJ15 to DJ16 was certainly odd. I doubt they’d use the DJ16 clue today. Certainly wouldn’t call it a “society”.
His first game is unknown, but Steve had, at most, six FJ opponents in his five games. Is that a record?

David Stern (no, not that one), Sara Ingalls, Dan Staub.
Kudos to David for his endgame play, for sure.
Interestingly, we had a situation where Dan didn't lose money after an audience member shouted a response after he had signaled.
I am very thankful for TuneIn airing this game last December, as it meant I had responses and some clue text when the tape cut out intermittently early in DJ.

Leslie Miller #2 against Brian Caine & Jennifer Smith
59R (perfect J! Round), 1 TS and each player got a DD correct. You know what that means...
Cain, Caine, Kain, Kane, Kaine, etc.?
Brian's chat from the transcript I was using:
comes to us as the result of a contest in search in Portland, Maine.
Earning a PhD in radio, TV, film.
That's what you're doing.
Well, my interest is really in the relationship between the development of the mass media
industries and how that turns into popular culture.
I think that there's somewhere a sliding point where the relationship from industry
to culture begins.
And my research interests are followed in that direction.
Have you done any research on our program?
Because we like to think that jeopardy after nine years on the air is now part of the American cultural scene.
Not specifically, but jeopardy is a real good example of how something that is intended to make money for somebody
actually turns out to be a very important part of other people's lives like ourselves
Okay.

I correctly guessed Arizona because I remember an FJ from a few years ago that Arizona had had the most female governors with 4 at the time, now 5, and I was 4 for the first 95% of 1989.OntarioQuizzer wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 3:17 pm Thanks to the National Archives of Game Show History, moving another game out of the "17 years as a placeholder" club, 1989-06-26 is now in: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1135
Julie Dock, Jeff Kohlberg, and Bob Boyd.
You'd definitely have to have been an adult in 1989 to have had a shot at this Final in 2023.

It's just interesting to see how much technology has changed over the course of the show. By the way, I'm surprised that Alex didn't call it either the pound sign or it's official term, octothorpe.OntarioQuizzer wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 10:44 am

Tony's strategy: Good for you, even though it didn't work out.
Sarah's strategy: Sure, give up your chance of winning to throw a plug out to the school you work for.

Terry—not a Canadian—did better than Michael—a Canadian—on the Cancon in this one. No matter though, Michael still got a runaway.
